Boxing Champion Savannah Marshall Set for PFL Debut in Newcastle on June 8

Savannah Marshall will make her first Professional Fighters League foray a little more than two months from now.

The organization announced on Tuesday that the boxing champion will compete at PFL Europe Newcastle on June 8 in the main event against an as yet to be announced opponent. PFL Europe Newcastle takes place at Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England, and airs on DAZN. The card will showcase bantamweights and women’s flyweights, with more bouts expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. Marshall will compete at 155 pounds.

“The Professional Fighters League prides itself on having the best athletes in the world on its roster and on June 8, PFL welcomes boxing world champion and combat sports icon Savannah Marshall to the SmartCage for her MMA debut, where she will compete in front of her hometown fans in Newcastle,” said PFL CEO Peter Murray in a release. “Savannah and Claressa Shields competed in one of the most-watched women’s boxing matchups in history when they first fought, and now with Savannah’s MMA debut, the two are on a collision course for a rematch wearing four-ounce gloves and settling the score in the PFL SmartCage.”

Marshall is a super middleweight boxing champion in multiple promotions and owns a 13-1 career mark in the Sweet Science, with 10 victories coming by way of knockout. Her lone defeat came against Shields last October. Marshall has some experience with MMA, as she has trained with current UFC talent Molly McCann in the past.
