Carla Esparza vs. Alexa Grasso Set for UFC Mexico City on Sept. 21

An intriguing strawweight showdown has been added to the UFC Mexico City card.

Former strawweight champion Carla Esparza, will take on Alexa Grasso, according to Esparza’s Instagram account.

Esparza is coming off of a decision win over Virna Jandiroba at UFC Fort Lauderdale to get back into the win column. Before that, she lost to Tatiana Suarez and Claudia Gadelha. The 31-year-old is 14-6 as a pro and beat Rose Namajunas back in 2014 to win the inaugural strawweight title before losing to Joanna Jedrzejczyk in her first title defense at UFC 185.

Grasso, meanwhile, got back into the win column last time out as she beat Karolina Kowalkiewicz by decision at UFC 238. Before that, she lost by submission to Tatiana Suarez in May of 2018. The 25-year-old is a Mexico native has previously campaigned to be on the card.

UFC Mexico City goes down on Sept. 21 and is currently without a main event.
