Carlos Condit Wants to Welcome Welterweight Debutant Michael Chiesa

After two consecutive losses in the 155-pound division, the latter of which was compounded by missing weight, Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight contender Michael Chiesa has decided to move up to the welterweight division seeking a fresh start, and he already has a prospective opponent rolling out the welcome mat for him.

Chiesa last fought in July at UFC 226 against Anthony Pettis, losing via second-round submission. News of “Maverick” moving up to 170 pounds caught the eye of former UFC welterweight title contender Carlos Condit who reached out to Chiesa via Twitter to welcome him to the division. It is rumored the fight between the pair is in the works for UFC 232 in December which was initially reported by Chris Taylor of BJPenn.com.

Chiesa (14-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) has notable victories over Jim Miller, Beneil Dariush, and Al Iaquinta. Condit (30-12 MMA, 7-8 UFC) is currently riding a four-fight losing streak and has been vocal about retiring from the sport. “The Natural Born Killer” counts wins over Rory MacDonald, Nick Diaz and Dong Hyun Kim on his ledger. He last fought in April, losing to Alex Oliveira via submission in the second round.

UFC 232 will be headlined by a women’s super-fight between Cristiane Justino who will be defending her featherweight belt against bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.
