Invicta FC 39 Weigh-in Results: Jinh Yu Frey Loses Title on Scale

Invicta Fighting Championships will put on its first card of 2020 Friday as atomweight champion Jinh Yu Frey will look to defeat Ashley Cummins for a second time at Invicta FC 39. While the Kansas City, Kansas, event is now official, Frey missed weight for the main event as she weighed in at 105.8 pounds. Since she was .8 pounds over the atomweight limit, and there is no one-pound allowance in title fights, only Cummins will have the opportunity to win the belt. If Frey is victorious, the belt will become vacant. Additionally, late-notice replacement Shanna Young, who was set to face Dalana Torquato, was unable to weigh in as she fell ill.

Before missing weight, Frey (8-4) was looking to make her second defense of the title. She won and defended the previously vacant belt against Minna Grusander in consecutive bouts back in 2018. The Texas native will also look to rebound from her disappointing Rizin Fighting Federation debut as she lost a decision to Ayaka Hamasaki last year. She previously defeated Cummins via decision in 2017.

Cummins (7-4) hasn’t lost a bout since losing to Frey and has picked up two wins in Invicta since then. She won decisions over Stephanie Alba and Jessica Correa Delboni, and will seek to pick up revenge and the belt on Friday night. A victory would be the biggest moment in Cummins’ career as she previously fell short against the likes of Joanne Calderwood and Alexa Grasso.

The co-main event will determine the next flyweight challenger as Pearl Gonzalez takes on Miranda Maverick. Gonzalez (10-4) most recently defeated Brogan Walker-Sanchez by decision after losing to Vanessa Porto in a title bout. Maverick (6-2) is riding a two-fight win streak and looks to earn her first shot at gold.

Invicta FC 39 will air live on UFC Fight Pass starting at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 7.
