KSW Signs Former Pro Boxing Heavyweight Champion Izu Ugonoh

During the broadcast of its latest event, KSW revealed that a new entry is joining its heavyweight roster.

The Polish organization announced that they signed former professional boxer and kickboxer Izuagbe Ugonoh. As a pro boxer, "Izu" gathered a record of 18-2, with 15 of his victories coming inside the distance. He also won the interim WBA Oceania and WBO Africa heavyweight titles at the expense of Ibrahim Labaran thanks to a first-round knockout victory. The following year, he claimed the vacant IBF Mediterranean heavyweight title by defeating Frenchman Gregory Tony.

"I am excited and really happy to welcome Izu into KSW," president Martin Lewandowski told Sherdog. He is a world-class boxer with big knockout power. So as a fan, I am also interested to see how he transitions to MMA. We've been speaking a little while about this but now it's finally time to see him in the KSW Arena. And you will see him compete sooner rather than later."

Former world heavyweight title challenger Dominic Breazeale put an end to Ugonoh's rise in boxing when the pair clashed in February 2017, shortly after Breazeale lost to Anthony Joshua. "Trouble" proved to be too much to handle for the Polish fighter as he dropped Ugonoh through the ropes in the fifth round, securing a TKO victory. Ugonoh bounced back a few months later by forcing Fred Kassi to retire at the end of the second round.

Izu's most recent fight as a boxer dates back to July 2019 when he lost to Lukasz Rozanski. After that, he focused on his transition into MMA. He will make his MMA pro debut at KSW 54, but his opponent's name is still unknown at the moment. The Polish promotion has yet to announce the date of the upcoming KSW event officially. During the recent broadcast of KSW 53, it seemed that the promotion revealed that it would go down in Warsaw, Poland, on Aug. 9.
