TOKYO, Japan — Smack Girl, the biggest Japanese promoter of female
mixed martial arts bouts, announced participants for its August 17
card, which features a four-woman tournament as well as several
single matches.
Ring of Combat champion Laura D'Auguste, who last fought in March, earning a unanimous decision over Roxanne Modafferi (Pictures), joins three women — Megumi Yabushita (Pictures), Tevi Say, and Asako Saioka — competing in the one-night tournament.
The card at Yoyogi No. 2 Taiikukan also features a Smack Girl lightweight title fight between Yuka Tsuji and Ossan. The two fighters have known each other since they wrestled together in college. Tsuji would appear to be the clear-cut favorite heading into Wednesday's fights.
