PFL CEO Hints at Expanded Schedule, Pay-Per-View Events, Challenger Series for 2022

As the 2021 Professional Fighters League campaign draws to a close, it appears that big things are in store for the promotion in the year to come.

During a press conference on Wednesday to promote the PFL Championship on Oct. 27, CEO Peter Murray alluded to several new “properties” on tap for the organization in 2022. Those include what sounds like the PFL’s first foray into pay-per-view as well as something similar to what Dana White’s Contender Series does for the UFC in terms of bringing new talent into the promotion.

“Not only are we excited about the upcoming championship, we’re excited about the 2022 season ahead,” Murray said. “We’ll expand our season events, but in addition to that we’re gonna launch new properties. The PFL will be launching a new pay-per-view division and a lineup of events. We’ll also launch the new PFL Challenger Series for pro fighters aspiring to get into the PFL season format.”

Additionally, Murray mentioned another initiative that will help bring more MMA prospects to the PFL.

“Finally, we’re gonna launch a one-of-a kind MMA combine on a major scale to identify new talent from around the world,” Murray said. “More to come on those details.”

After putting its schedule on hold for the duration of 2020, PFL has returned to hold a total of 10 cards this year, including the upcoming championship event. That figures to increase with the plans the company has in store for 2022.

“PFL is the fastest growing and the most innovative league in all of sports,” Murray said. “We established ourselves as the No. 2 MMA organization in the world and we accomplished that in three years.”
