The father of UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, has reportedly woken up from his coma.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Abdulmanap was flown to a military hospital in Moscow to treat him. Suffering from pneumonia, the illness affected his heart and caused issues. Following heart surgery, Abdulmanap entered a brief coma. On Thursday, RT Sport released good news that he has woken up.

A friend of the family, Ramazan Rabadanov, told Russian media outlets, “He has regained consciousness today. He hasn’t spoken yet. Yesterday [Wednesday] he was in a coma after a heart operation.” The reports also claimed that he was in critical condition, and friends and family are not allowed to visit him in the hospital.

Several fellow fighters and promotion officials have expressed their sympathy and thoughts to the champ and his father, including Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje and UFC President Dana White. The promotion itself also posted a statement courtesy of White.

Attributed to White, the UFC’s statement wrote:

“Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is a true martial artist who lives a life of pride, honor and respect. He instilled those same values in his son, world champion Khabib, at an early age and was always in his corner throughout his career. I know how close Khabib is with his father and I’m saddened to hear about his current state. My thoughts are with Abdulmanap and the Nurmagomedov family as he continues to fight.”
