The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns with a card that has lost one of its most intriguing fights.

While UFC Fight Night 212's top two bouts are intact, the flyweight contest between Askar Askarov and Brandon Royval will no longer proceed. The issue was that Askarov was unable to make weight, and he reportedly declined the match at a catchweight. Headliners Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araujo were on target, along with all fighters on the card except for C.J. Vergara, who came in three pounds over the flyweight limit to receive a 30% purse fine.
"Before I started the weight cut I heard my opponent [is] not going
to make weight," Royval explained on Twitter.
"They turned down a catchweight, so it looks like the fight is
off."
Riding an impressive three-fight win streak, Grasso (14-3) is looking to cement herself as a title contender. The Mexican fighter is coming off an impressive submission win over Joanne Wood, and recently took a decision over Maycee Barber as well. The 29-year-old officially weighed 125.5 pounds.
Meanwhile, "Vivi" bounced back from her third career defeat to Katlyn Chookagian by topping Andrea Lee earlier this year. Araujo (11-3) had beaten Roxanne Modafferi and Montana De La Rosa by decision prior to the setback. The Brazilian had no trouble making weight, and came in at 126 pounds on the dot.
UFC Fight Night 212 will stream in its entirety on ESPN+. The prelims begin at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT, while the main card starts at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
