The Swedish MMA Federation -- Svenska MMA Förbundet -- on Thursday sanctioned Superior Challenge’s April 30 event for use of the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts.

Previous restrictions, most notably elbows and upkicks to the head of an opponent from an active ground position, were amended in December, laying the foundation for top-level fighters to compete under unified rules in Sweden with the sanctioning of the federation.

Superior Challenge becomes first organization in Sweden sanctioned for the unified rules. The following three fights for “Rise of Champions” were approved for use of the rule set: Thales Leites vs. Jeremy Horn, Diego Gonzalez vs. Daniel Acacio and David Bielkheden vs. Yuya Shirai.

“We have always raised the level of the fight card and for each show and we are aiming for a top international level,” Superior Challenge CEO Babak Aghavali said. “This is the best card ever in Superior Challenge’s history. This is a totally new level.”
