Velasquez-Dos Santos ‘Primetime’ Earns 2 Million Viewers on Fox

The UFC’s first “Primetime” special on Fox earned an average of two million viewers for its hour-long broadcast on Sunday.

Sherdog.com confirmed the viewership figure with an industry source on Thursday. In addition to the overall viewership, the broadcast also netted ratings of 0.99 and 0.98 in the male 18-34 and 18-49 demographics.

These are relatively modest numbers when compared to the total viewership and the promotion’s usual performance in those demographics. For instance, episode six of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 on Spike TV took in 1.6 million average viewers but posted ratings of 1.7 and 1.5 in the M18-34 and M18-49 categories. This likely means that a good portion of the “Primetime” viewership was made up of people outside of the UFC’s typical fan base.

The special, which profiles champion Cain Velasquez and challenger Junior dos Santos while preparing for their heavyweight title conflict at UFC on Fox 1, aired on Fox in the midst of the network’s NFL programming on Sunday.

Going down Nov. 12 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., the event will only feature the heavyweight headliner during the Fox broadcast. The remaining nine fights, highlighted by a pivotal lightweight clash between Clay Guida and Ben Henderson, will stream live on the UFC’s Facebook page prior to the Fox telecast.
