Zach Makovsky, Eduardo Dantas Cleared for Bellator 65 Bantamweight Title Showdown

Zach Makovsky will defend his bantamweight title as expected at Bellator 65 on Friday, as both “Fun Size” and opponent Eduardo Dantas were cleared at Thursday’s pre-fight weigh-ins.

Makovsky tipped the scales at 134.4 pounds ahead of his inaugural title defense, while “Dudu” checked in at 135 pounds even. Taking place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., the evening’s main draw airs on MTV2 and Epix immediately following the undercard stream on Spike.com.

The event also features the second half of Bellator’s Season 6 bantamweight quarterfinals, as two-time tournament veteran Ed West (135.8) takes on Marcos Galvao (135), while Olympic wrestling bronze medalist Alexis Vila (136) squares off with Luis Alberto Nogueira (135.4). The promotion’s final featherweight semifinal will also be contested when Daniel Straus (145.8) meets Mike Corey (145.6) to decide who will face Marlon Sandro in the tournament finals.

Additionally, former welterweight champion Lyman Good (171) will appear on the evening’s preliminary draw, scrapping with three-time Bellator competitor LeVon Maynard (171.6).* Meanwhile, UFC veteran Kris McCray (170.6) makes his Bellator debut against Ailton Barbosa (169.6), while Will Martinez Jr. (153.8) squares off with Terrell Hobbs (155.4).

Featherweights Kenny Foster (145.6) and Jay Haas (145.6) will also collide on the undercard, as will lightweights Mikhail Malyutin (155.3) and E.J. Brooks (155.8). Rounding out the event will be another featherweight tilt pitting Scott Heckman (146) against Lester Caslow (146) and a middleweight confrontation between Duane Bastress (185.2) and Plinio Cruz (185).
