On Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Charles Oliveira added yet another chapter to one of the most sublimely violent highlight reels in MMA history.
In the main event of UFC Fight Night 261 at Farmasi Arena, the 35-year-old former lightweight champ toed the line against short-notice opponent Mateusz Gamrot, then proceeded to run through him as though he wasn’t there, overwhelming a Top 10 contender on the feet as well as on the ground en route to a second-round face crank submission.

The co-main event in Rio saw ranked action as well, as former flyweight champ and current No. 9 bantamweight Deiveson Figueiredo squared off against the red-hot Montel Jackson. While Jackson was just outside of Sherdog’s rankings headed into the weekend, he was on a six-fight tear and entered UFC Rio as a whopping 3-to-1 favorite, only to find himself thoroughly outwrestled and outhustled, eventually losing in a fight that was nowhere near as competitive as the split verdict implied.
