In a fight that was supposed to crown a new champion, no such champion was crowned. In the main event of UFC Norfolk, Deiveson Figueiredo took out Joseph Benavidez in the second round of their flyweight bout. Right after cutting Benavidez badly after a clash of heads, Figueiredo put Benavidez out with a big right-hand shot. The referee stepped in to call the action off after some ground-and-pound. Because Figueiredo missed weight, he was not eligible to win the vacant title.
Right on time, the God of War exacts his violent toll. Deiveson Figueiredo completes the tragedy of Joe Benavidez, collapsing the legend and denying him a belt forever. Where do the flyweights go from here? #UFCNorfolk pic.twitter.com/fbJvKlhL7C— Kyle Johnson (@VonPreux) March 1, 2020
