Brent Primus: Competitive Consistency or Bust

Dazn is the exclusive streaming partner of Bellator MMA. You can sign up here and live stream 100+ fight nights a year.

Brent Primus’ fighting scheduling has been the model of inconsistency since 2014. Having competed just once per year in that span, the 10-year veteran has been unable to maximize his earning potential in Bellator MMA, even when he captured the promotion’s lightweight championship. Primus believes he needs to establish some competitive consistency in 2020, starting with his battle with Chris Bungard at Bellator 240 on Saturday in Dublin.

“It’s killing me financially. I’ve been begging for three fights [per year] for the last couple of years,” Primus told Sherdog.com. “The reason I’m fighting in Ireland is because they were like, ‘You can take this fight right now, or you can wait longer.’ And I was like, ‘Just sign me up. I do not care who I’m fighting, I don’t care where it’s at, I just need to get a fight.’ So I am begging my manager and Bellator. I need three fights this year, I really do. It’s hard, man. It’s hard financially, and it’s hard on me mentally.”

In this exclusive interview with Sherdog.com, Primus focuses on his matchup with Bungard, a replacement for original opponent Peter Queally. He broke down the differences between the two men while also discussing his gogoplata submission in September, his interest in a lightweight grand prix and his being a fan of CBD products.
