Johnny Munoz Jr. Thinks Nobody 'Really Understands' the Point System

In a matter of days, Johnny Munoz Jr. will return to the Octagon for the first time since August 2021. Munoz (11-1, 1-1 UFC) is scheduled to face Tony Gravely in a 135-pound clash on the preliminary card of the upcoming UFC Fight Night 207. In addition to training at Cquence Jiu-Jitsu, “Kid Kvenbo” is spending some time in Tijuana, Mexico, sharpening his tools with the best local sparring partners.

Ahead of his assignment, the former King of the Cage champion remarked that the mixed martial arts judging criteria often generates controversial results, like when he lost a unanimous decision to Nathan Maness in Munoz’s Ultimate Fighting Championship debut at UFC Fight Night 173 in August 2020. According to Munoz, part of his frustration with that outcome comes down to the point system that isn’t very clear. Luckily for the Californian, he bounced back with a submission victory over Jamey Simmons with a rear-naked choke in the second round of their bantamweight pairing at UFC 265.
