The “Canadian Gangster” is one of the new names debuting in the Professional Fighters League lightweight division in 2021.
After spending some time training in Puerto Rico with John Danaher, Olivier Aubin-Mercier (11-5) returned to Canada. At the moment, Aubin-Mercier is still quarantining at home, and he’s a bit wor-ried about his camp given the current COVID-19 restrictions in Quebec. “Canadian Gangster” will clash with European MMA veteran Joilton Lutterbach in the first round of the PFL 2021 Regular Season.
“I checked him out a little bit, but not a lot,” Aubin-Mercier said while talking with Sherdog. “I know he has a lot of experience. I think he has like 30-something fights. So he’s a guy with a lot of fights under his belt. Other than that, I didn’t even watch a lot of his fights. I think I watched one or two of his fights, and all those fights ended like in 20 seconds.”
Before signing with PFL, Aubin-Mercier fought under the Ultimate Fighting Championship banner. In his last three Octagon appearances, Aubin-Mercier dropped fights to Alexander Hernandez, Gilbert Burns and Arman Tsarukyan. He will now look to bounce back against “Peregrino.”
“I won’t push it, but for sure, I’ll look for opportunities,” he added when asked if he wants to finish his upcoming opponent inside the distance. “If I see it, I’m just going to take it. But to say that I’m going to go berserk on him the first minute just to get more points, I don’t think that’s going to hap-pen. But for sure, it’s interesting to have more points if you win in the first round, fewer points for the second round, and fewer for the third, and then the decision. It’s a really interesting way to do it.”
