  • Jacob Volkmann No Fan of Mitt Romney or Barack Obama By: Sherdog.com Staff

Jacob Volkmann, on “Beatdown,” discussing whom he’ll vote for in the 2012 U.S. presidential election: “I’m going to be voting for Jacob Volkmann. I’m going to write myself in. ... I’m not going to vote for Romney. I think he’s identical to Obama. I’m not a fan of him. ... I think they have the same policy when it comes to health care. I was watching the straw polls and the debates, and all Romney did ... was just point fingers at the other politicians, and it was really irritating me. I’ve got no respect for Romney at all.”

  • Lentz on Volkmann: He’s a Weird Dude By: Sherdog.com Staff

Nik Lentz, on “Beatdown,” discussing whether teammate Jacob Volkmann’s controversial comments are made in jest:

“I don’t know if I would say that. Jacob Volkmann (Pictured) is a weird dude. He’s always been a weird, kind of awkward guy. A lot of it isn’t show. A lot of is just how he is. He’s just actually kind of letting it out a little bit because people have told him, ‘Hey, let it out.’ And he kind of is, and people are starting to be like, ‘Whoa, that’s kind of crazy,’ but he’s just kind of an awkward guy.”

  • Against His Will, Volkmann May Have to Stand & Bang By: Sherdog.com Staff

Jacob Volkmann, on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing how and why he has to change his style to climb the ranks:

“I have to stand and bang. They’re looking for who draws the most fans. Most fans, they like the guys that stand and bang and knock people out. I’m not a guy that likes to stand and bang and knock people out. I’m a doctor, for crying out loud. I want to keep my brain intact.”

  • Volkmann: Calling Out Obama Worked Perfectly By: Sherdog.com Staff

Jacob Volkmann (Pictured), on “The Savage Dog Show,” discussing the publicity that calling out President Obama has generated:

“It was needed. After that Antonio McKee fight, I felt pretty bad about how I performed because it was such a boring fight. I actually was planning on calling [Obama] out for about two months. I just didn’t know how I’d do it, but I think it played out perfectly, the way I wanted it to come out. Got a lot of press on it and took the focus off the boring fight.”

  • UFC 106 Primer By: Jake Rossen

    S. Albanese/Tailstar.com

When the UFC’s hype engine fails to deliver any real, palpable anticipation for a fight -- as in the case of Saturday’s Tito Ortiz/Forrest Griffin rematch, which is fine but far from the Epic Super Rematch of Mega Titans some clever editing and music are presenting it as -- you can make up your own narrative.

In this instance, UFC 106’s four light heavyweights might potentially be participating in a four-man tournament for a chance at the title without knowing it. In addition to Ortiz/Griffin, a debuting Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will face Luis Arthur Cane; the respective winners would have time to meet before May 1’s Lyoto Machida/Mauricio Rua rematch. It may be all that you need to sit a little closer to the television.
