Keeping up with the Joneses is a full-time job, in light of ex-Ultimate Fighting Championship champ Jon Jones’ latest arrest.
In an interview before his Hall of Fame induction, Jones joked with media that at heavyweight he needed to “do more legally controversial s---” to stay relevant. This incident is one in a long chain of arrests throughout his career for various offenses. In 2020, he was taken into custody for a DWI and negligent use of firearms. Earlier than that, he was charged with battery at a strip club in July 2019, pleaded guilty to drag racing in 2016 and was involved in a hit-and-run with a pregnant woman in 2015. He also picked up a DWI in 2012 for crashing into a telephone pole while in New York.
Jones’ representative, Richard Schaefer, told ESPN that, “The facts are still developing, we really don’t know yet the full story so I’m not going to make any comment until I have a chance to talk to Jon and until we see how this plays out.”
As a professional inside the Octagon, no man could best him. A disqualification loss remains on his record to Matt Hamill, but Jones was DQed for 12-to-6 elbows after thrashing Hamill on the ground right before a stoppage could come. A pair of decisions against Thiago Santos in 2019 and Dominick Reyes in 2020 pushed Jones harder than anyone not named Gustafsson had tested him, but Jones prevailed on the scorecards on both occasions. “Bones” relinquished the light heavyweight strap in 2020 to move up to heavyweight, but he has not been scheduled to compete since then.
