Next up was the second match in the tournament, featuring Ryan “The Lion” Schulz of Team Quest against Mike Aina from BJ Penn’s school on the Big Island. This one was a slug-fest, and very difficult to call. Schulz has speed like you wouldn’t believe, and no qualms about taking a punch to give one. Aina seemed to not feel the shots as they pounded into his face, and didn’t slow down or back up once throughout.
The fight was exciting to watch with a couple of guys who loved to bang, and ended in a split decision for Schulz. At least one judge thought that Aina’s effort slightly edged out Schulz, which became salient due to another injury later…
