Marcus Edwards vs. Adam Townsend Tops LFA 5 Lineup on Feb. 24

Newly-formed Legacy Fighting Alliance isn’t wasting any time in lining up the early portion of 2017 with events. On Friday afternoon, the Las Vegas-based promotion announced that LFA 5 will head to the Rocky Mountains and nestle in Broomfield, Colo., on Feb. 24. Headlining the event, which will take place inside the 1STBANK Center, will be a lightweight war between Marcus Edwards and Adam Townsend.

A veteran of Titan FC, RFA and Legacy FC, Edwards has won his last two. Since losing to longtime veteran Pat Healy in July 2015, “Bad Intentions” has been on a roll, having submitted Lorawnt-T Nelson that following November and then knocking out Billy Christianson at Legacy FC 60 in October. The Denver native is excited to keep things rolling in front of his hometown fans.

“It’s an honor to be headlining one of the first LFA events in my backyard,” Edwards said. “I have fought for both RFA and Legacy FC and had great experiences working with the people behind the scenes for both promotions. They are an awesome, fun group of people, and the merger now has them all under one roof. I got also excited when I heard I was fighting Adam Townsend. This guarantees an exciting, hard-hitting, fan-friendly fight.”

Townsend has been just as hot inside the cage as his upcoming foe. “Prime Time” has gone 10-1 in his last 11 bouts, with his only loss coming via split decision against Ernest Chavez at RFA 33. He’s won two in a row since, with knockouts of Justin Hartley and, most recently, UFC vet Junior Assuncao in July. With his last two battles coming under the umbrella of smaller shows, the Tennessee native is glad to be back on a bigger stage.

“Coming to the LFA was an easy decision,” stated Townsend. “I got to meet everyone from RFA and Legacy when I fought for RFA on the RFA vs. Legacy card. They were all great. Now it’s like one big family with the LFA. I really like this Marcus Edwards matchup too. I like that he’s aggressive and comes to fight, but he’s never fought someone that’s gonna put pressure on him they way I will on February 24th.”

LFA 5 will be televised live on AXS TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Additional bouts will be announced in the coming weeks.
