Two World Titles to be on the Line at Glory 44 on Aug. 25

Glory announced last month that the promotion will return to the Windy City on Aug. 25, but up until recently, the card’s roster and lineup was a mystery. Glory revealed that two of its world titles will be on the line on the card, which will go down at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., just outside Chicago.

Reigning welterweight champ Cedric Doumbe (67-4-1, 39 KOs) will put his crown on the line against Murthel Groenhart (66-22-3, 38 KOs) in the Glory 44 main event. Doumbe previously defeated Groenhart at Glory 28 last year and is riding a 12-fight winning streak, with two of those wins coming over former titlist Nieky Holzken. Groenhart is coming off a spectacular knockout of Harut Grigorian at Glory 42 in June.

The previously-announced battle between Richard Maximus and fellow welterweight Daniel Morales will bolster the Glory 44 main card.

Current Invicta FC fighter and former two-division Lion Fight Muay Thai champion Tiffany Van Soest will put her women’s super bantamweight title on the line against Funda Alkayis in the headline slot of the Glory 44 SuperFight Series undercard. Van Soest (17-2-1, 5 KOs) is ready for the first defense of her title while Alkayis (29-2, 12 KOs) last fought for Glory a year ago when she toppled Vanessa De Waele at Flory 32.

Heavyweight contender Catalin Morosanu (44-10, 26 KOs) will also fight on the undercard, though an opponent has yet to be determined.

Glory 44 will stream live on ESPN3, while the SuperFight Series undercard will stream on UFC Fight Pass, though exact times have not been announced.
