Preview: UFC 321 Prelims
Al-Selwady vs. Camilo
Lightweights
Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady (15-4, 0-1 UFC) vs. Matheus Camilo (9-3, 0-1 UFC)BETTING ODDS: Al-Selwady (-118), Camilo (-102)
Two lightweight prospects look to rebound from unsuccessful UFC debuts in this clash. Camilo found himself in the right place at the right time in order to earn a UFC contract in 2024. Undefeated prospect Dorobshokh Nabotov made some headlines when he crashed a press conference to ask UFC CEO Dana White for a contract, and he was given what was essentially a tryout match in Korea against Camilo. However, Camilo played spoiler and won the fight, so the Brazilian wound up getting the UFC contract, even if it appears to be coming a bit too early. Camilo is an impressive athlete with some potential, but he fights at a slow pace and was driven to discomfort by Gabriel Green’s aggression in his first trip to the Octagon in May. Camilo attempts to rebound against Al-Selwady, who makes his sophomore appearance after dropping his UFC debut in March 2024. There’s a lot to like about Al-Selwady’s game. Short and stocky, “The Pride of Palestine” has shown an ability to mix up his approaches between flitting around at range and charging in for a more wrestling-focused attack. He’s an effective round-winner in both areas, but that UFC debut against Loik Radzhabov affirmed that his durability looks to be a major weakness. Al-Selwady can get caught closing in, which got him knocked out against Radzhabov and on the regional scene. That’s also essentially the dynamic in this outing. Al-Selwady remains the much more complete fighter, while Camilo is capable of ending this with one well-timed shot. Provided Al-Selwady’s latest knockout loss didn’t take any aggression out of his approach, he should be able to work his way to a win. The pick is Al-Selwady via decision.
