Preview: UFC 321 Prelims
Amorim vs. Inoue
Women’s Strawweights
Jaqueline Amorim (10-1, 4-1 UFC) vs. Mizuki Inoue (15-6, 2-1 UFC)BETTING ODDS: Amorim (-440), Inoue (+340)
Amorim looks to keep building momentum in this outing. A standout grappler, Amorim became an obvious pickup in 2023, as she kept running through her regional competition with a series of first-round finishes. Amorim then suffered her first loss in that UFC debut, getting off to a hot start against Sam Hughes before tiring out after the first round, and she appears to have at least learned some lessons from that defeat. Her next bout against Montserrat Ruiz was much better paced, with Amorim eventually getting the finish in the third round. It’s difficult to tell how much she has built things from there, as her fights since have been one-way traffic that have seen her score some quick submissions. The hope is that Inoue can give Amorim her next stiff test. Still just 31 years old, Inoue is about a dozen years removed from what was arguably her career peak, when she was a teenage phenom competing with some of the best strawweight prospects in the world. Given her early start, it took Inoue a bit longer than expected to actually make it to the UFC, but she has settled in as a sound if uninspiring fighter since making her Octagon debut in 2019. As Inoue has matured and gotten stronger, she has also proven not to be a standout athlete, making her both slow and undersized against some of the better athletes in the division. However, she’s still capable of putting on a tough scrap even in a losing effort, and her athletic weaknesses haven’t reached the level of being a clear liability that gets her blown out of her fights. Still, Amorim should control this fight early on, and provided she can maintain the form she showed against Ruiz, she should be able to coast out a win. The pick is Amorim via decision.
