4 Bouts Official for Strikeforce Challengers 17 in Las Vegas

The prospect-driven Strikeforce Challengers series is set to make its Sin City debut on July 22, as the promotion announced Tuesday that four fights are now official for Strikeforce Challengers 17.

Headlined by a rubber match between welterweights Roger Bowling and Bobby Voelker (Pictured), the event will emanate from the series’ new home in Las Vegas’ Palms Casino Resort. The card will also feature an intriguing 135-pound women’s scrap, as former champion Sarah Kaufman squares off with Liz Carmouche.

Heavyweight Lavar Johnson will also make his return at the event against International Fight League veteran Devin Cole. Rounding out the main draw will be a middleweight contest between Adlan Amagov and Ronald Stallings, as well as a to-be-announced bout that will also appear on the Showtime broadcast.

“The rubber match between Voelker and Bowling will not only settle the score between the two, but it will also help determine another rising contender in the welterweight division,” stated Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker in an official release. “This event on July 22 is loaded with potentially explosive fights and we’re excited to kick off our relationship with the Palms with such a great card.”

Bowling and Voelker first met in May 2010, with Bowling coming out the victor via technical decision after an inadvertent eye poke prevented Bowling from continuing early in the third frame. Voelker would avenge the controversial loss in the main event of October’s Strikeforce Challengers 11, as the 32-year-old wore his younger opponent down in the second round and finished him with punches.
