After Quick KO of Corey Anderson, Jan Blachowicz Tells Jon Jones ‘Give Me Place and Time’

Jan Blachowicz has been an extremely busy man inside the Octagon and on Saturday night in the main event of UFC Fight Night 167, the Polish brute may have punched his ticket to a world title shot.

Literally.

Blachowicz (26-8) exacted revenge on Corey Anderson by knocking the American out 3:08 into the opening round of their light heavyweight encounter at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, N.M.. Anderson was riding a wave of hype after winning four in a row, most notably a first-round knockout of the highly-touted Johnny Walker in November. Many MMA insiders expected Anderson to beat Blachowicz again (he bested the Pole via unanimous nod in 2015) and find himself opposite reigning light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in his next outing, but Blachowicz threw a 6’2”-sized monkey wrench into those plans.

“They were wrong about me,” he said after he exited the Octagon in spectacular fashion. “I proved that I am the best in the world and I proved that I am the next contender for the title shot.”

Anderson has made a name for himself with his solid boxing and punching power, but Blachowicz was too much for him. Anderson was trying to use his striking to set up takedowns and control the pace of the fight on the canvas, but the Berkut WCA Fight Team star saw that gameplan coming and he prepared for it.

“We trained that shot all the time in training,” he said. “We knew that he would try to use his boxing to take me down. He used his boxing to take down Johnny Walker, but that’s good for me because I like stand up fighting.”

It was a crushing right hand the face that doomed Anderson. Once it connected, Anderson was felled and a follow-up hammerfist put him away for good. With Jones in attendance and applauding the Pole’s conquest, Blachowicz directed his next words right at the champion.

“You promised me on the show Jon, I am next,” he stated. “Let’s do this, tell me where and when. Give me the place and time.”
