Boxing: Kanat Islam, Breidis Prescott Added to Saturday’s PBC on NBCSN Card
Undefeated junior middleweight contender Kanat Islam will look to
keep his momentum rolling when he enters the ring against Jonathan
Batista on Saturday in one of the featured undercard battles of
Premier Boxing Champions’ next PBC on NBCSN event.
Set to be held at Miccosukee Gaming Resort in Miami, Fla., the 2008 Olympian is hoping to open more eyes to his abilities against Batista (15-7, 8 KOs). Islam has looked terrific thus far, and the Chinese fighter has knocked out almost everybody he’s faced. Islam (19-0, 16 KOs) hasn’t yet faced any world-rated opposition but the notion is if he’s triumphant against Batista, the caliber of his foes will immediately increase.
PBC also announced on Wednesday the addition of popular Colombian
slugger Breidis Prescott versus Claudinei Lacerda (17-12, 12 KOs)
in an eight-round welterweight affair. Prescott (28-7, 21 KOs) is
looking to get his career back on track after losing five of his
last eight bouts before quickly dispatching the winless Kendry
Galban in July.
The PBC on NBCSN card is headlined by Kevin Bizier (24-2, 16 KOs) taking on Fredrick Lawson (24-0, 20 KOs) 12-round IBF welterweight title eliminator. Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT with Walter Castillo (26-3, 19 KOs) locking horns with Keita Obara (15-1, 14 KOs) in a 12-round junior welterweight tussle.
The remainder of the undercard features Courtney Jackson (6-0, 4 KOs) in a four-round welterweight bout against Elijah Linder (2-2); Yuandale Evans (17-1, 13 KOs) fighting Miguel Del Valle (10-23, 2 KOs) in a six-round featherweight attraction; Victor Darocha (2-0, 2 KOs) in a four-rounder versus Yendris Rodriguez (1-0, 1 KO); and Bruno Bredicean (1-0) against Clifford Gray (0-2) in a four-round welterweight match.
