Charlie Brenneman Signs 3-Fight Deal with New Jersey’s CFFC, Debuts April 12 at Lightweight

Former UFC welterweight Charlie Brenneman has signed a three-fight contract with the New Jersey-based Cage Fury Fighting Championships.

Sherdog.com Friday verified the signing with Arias Garcia, CFFC matchmaker and general manager, who also revealed that the promotion has signed onetime UFC featherweight and former CFFC champion Joey Gambino to a multi-fight deal. Brenneman is expected to make his promotional debut at CFFC 23, which takes place April 12 from the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia, Pa.

Brenneman made the cut to lightweight following his release from the UFC last year, debuting at 155 pounds on Jan. 19 under the Valley Fight League Banner. “The Spaniard” earned a finish for the first time in three years, submitting Eric Irvin with a second-round rear-naked choke. Brenneman, 32, owns eight of his 16 career victories via decision and holds notable victories over Rick Story, Amilcar Alves and Jason High.

Gambino, 24, saw his perfect professional record ruined during his two-fight UFC stint, which resulted in a pair of defeats last year. “The Raging Warrior” was first submitted by a Steven Siler guillotine choke on June 22 and then outpointed by hard-hitting “TUF 14” winner Diego Brandao, who took a unanimous decision from Gambino on Oct. 13 at UFC 153.
