Injury Knocks Movsar Evloev Out of Nov. 5 UFC Fight Night 214 Headliner

A thrilling battle of Ultimate Fighting Championship unbeatens will have to wait.

In September, the organization scheduled Bryce Mitchell (15-0) against Movsar Evloev (16-0) for what turned out to be the main event of UFC Fight Night 214. The featherweight main attraction was only together for about three weeks before a story broke from Setanta Sports on Oct. 4 that Evloev suffered an injury in training. Over a week later, the UFC’s broadcast partner of ESPN Deportes confirmed on Friday that the injury forced Evloev out of the match, and there is currently no replacement on the books.

It is unclear if “Thug Nasty” will remain as the star attraction of this fight card, as Mitchell reportedly wants a full training camp to take on the likes of Ilia Topuria. A rumored pairing of Topuria vs. Sodiq Yusuff is also off the table once again due to the abbreviated training camp for the top-ranked 145-pounders. Should he stay on UFC Fight Night 214, Mitchell will look to earn his seventh win in a row inside the Octagon. The Arkansas native picked up a contract by winning the all-undefeated 27th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” in 2018.

The promotion has not specified whether the matchup will be preserved for a later date, or if Evloev will take on a different foe when he returns. As the injury itself has not been disclosed, the timetable for his comeback is yet undetermined. Like his former adversary, Evloev had also won six straight fights in the UFC, with an unblemished record that began in 2014. The Russian has won all six of his UFC bouts by decision, claiming nods over the likes of Dan Ige, Hakeem Dawodu and Enrique Barzola.

UFC Fight Night 214 does not currently have an official headliner, but the highest-billed bout on the lineup likely now comes at strawweight between top-10 contenders Marina Rodriguez and Amanda Lemos. Additionally, a welterweight tilt between Neil Magny and Daniel Rodriguez recently shifted to this card due to a staph infection suffered by Rodriguez.
