Angela Lee will look to defend her atomweight title at One “Championship” Century against strawweight titlist Jingnan Xiong on Oct. 13.
Xiong defeated Lee by fifth-round TKO in their first meeting at One “A New Era” on March 31. Following the loss, Lee stayed at strawweight, losing a unanimous decision to Michelle Nicolini at One “Masters of Destiny” in July to fall to 9-2 as a pro. Despite her two-bout skid, Lee remains the promotion’s atomweight champion. She recognizes that she is in somewhat of a unique place in that regard.
“It is a crazy situation. I have two losses in my last two fights, so the pressure of losing is off my shoulders,” Lee said to Sherdog.com. “But, I have to defend my belt now, which is a lot of pressure. I didn’t get to show my skills my last two fights.”
Although Lee lost the first fight to Xiong, she is confident she has what it takes to win the rematch. She knows she performs and feels much better at atomweight and expects to remain undefeated in the division.
“It is kind of good. We have some things to go off of based off the first fight. However, I’m making changes, I know she will make changes to her game plan,” she explained. "I think this time around, I’m looking to defend my belt. This is my division and this is where I feel the best as I am undefeated.”
“Unstoppable” will also be headlining another card in One Championship, which is still surreal for her.
“It is something I don’t take for granted. There are incredible fighters on the card so for them to choose me as the main event is surreal,” she said. “I’m vert grateful for that. Added pressure, added motivation. The whole day is going to be amazing.”
