Report: Claudia Gadelha vs. Randa Markos To Be Added To UFC 239

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has a long-standing tradition of delivering loaded fight cards at the conclusion of International Fight Week each summer, and 2019 is shaping up to be no exception.

UFC 239 features two championship fights and a host of high-profile matchups on both the main and undercards, and it appears another bout is about to be announced between strawweights Claudia Gadelha and Randa Markos after ESPN’s Brett Okamoto claimed on his Twitter account that the bout has been accepted by both fighters.

“Per sources, UFC targeting Claudia Gadelha vs. Randa Markos at UFC 239 on July 6 in Las Vegas. Contracts not signed, but bout has been verbally agreed to.”

Gadelha (16-4) is coming off a loss to the surging Nina Ansaroff by unanimous decision at UFC 231 last December. Markos (9-6, 1 N/C) scored her first-ever finish inside the Octagon in her last outing against Angela Hill at UFC Nashville in March this year. Coincidentally, Markos’ last defeat in the UFC was also against Ansaroff.

UFC 239: Jones vs. Santos takes place July 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The lineup of fights is stacked at the top with two title fights, as light heavyweight champ Jon Jones defends his title against red-hot Thiago Santos and two-division champion Amanda Nunes defends her bantamweight strap against former champ Holly Holm. The rest of the card is taking shape, but already boasts high-profile matchups including a welterweight tilt between Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren, a probable title eliminator between heavyweights Francis Ngannou and Junior dos Santos and Jan Blachowicz welcoming Luke Rockhold to the 205-pound division.
