“The goal has always been the triple crown,” Alvarez said of his dream to win titles in three promotions. “I have fought for every organization. I’ve pretty much become the champion in every organization. That’s always been the main goal from the gate.
“But I think One is making strides and for right now I think it’s
about getting a footprint here in the United States and this is the
start of it right here with Amazon Prime.”
Things didn’t go as planned for Alvarez during his tenure with One. He went 1-2 with one NC in the promotion while competing in the lightweight (170-pound division). Alvarez suffered losses to Timofey Nastyukhin and Rae Yoon Ok, while a fight with Iuri Lapicus was ruled a no contest due to Alvarez landing illegal blows to the back of his opponent’s head. His lone victory was a first-round submission against Eduard Folayang at One “Dawn of Heroes” in August 2019. The Philadelphia native hasn’t competed since falling to Ok in April 2021.
Alvarez later released a statement confirming his departure:
"Confirmed, I am no longer with One," he wrote. "We parted ways amicably and I remain on good terms with the One team. I want to thank Chatri for the opportunity and I look forward to watching their continued success. I’m officially a free agent and ready to hunt."
