Shamil Gasanov Overcame Food Poisoning During ONE on Prime Video 18 Win

Shamil Gasanov revealed that his body wasn’t listening to him during his decision win over Ho Taek Oh at One on Prime Video 18.

Gasanov put on a dominant grappling display to earn a unanimous decision win over his opponent to bounce back from his lone career loss against Garry Tonon. “The Cobra” subsequently revealed that he was suffering from food poisoning and felt its effects severely as he battled his way to victory. The Dagestani standout said that while he felt in good shape while warming up, his body stopped listening to him after the opening frame.

“I don’t know what happened,” Gasanov said at the post-fight press conference. “When I was warming up, I felt pretty good and everything was well but at the same time, after the first round, I couldn’t feel my body well. My arms and legs weren’t listening to me but at the same time just because of my willpower and because of my trainer, I was able to get through the fight and win.”

Despite the difficult circumstances, Gasanov never considered pulling out of the fight.

“No, of course not,” he said. “I didn’t have those thoughts.”

Gasanov is now open to an opportunity to correct his record against Tonon, who takes on former champ Martin Nguyen at ONE 165 on Jan. 28. However, if he does run it back with Tonon, Gasanov would prefer doing it inside a cage.

“If it happens, I want it to be in a cage because I think I can use the cage better than him,” Gasanov said. “But at the same time, even if I meet him at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, I’m going to fight. I’m going to do the best. If in a cage, good. If no cage, good too. It doesn’t really matter.”

Gasanov also offered his thoughts on the upcoming clash between Tonon and Nguyen.

“It’s difficult to say who’s going to win,” he said. “Martin won the title multiple times, but I don’t think he’s as hungry as Garry. At the same time, after Garry’s last win, I think he’s really hungry for the win and if I were to bet, I think there’s a 60% chance that Garry would win and 40% that Martin would win.”
