Tanner Boser Confident in All-Around Skills Heading into Octagon Debut at UFC on ESPN 6

Tanner Boser was set to make his Octagon debut at UFC 240 in his home province of Alberta, Canada, but the day before weigh-ins his opponent, Giacomo Lemos, failed a drug test and the fight was scrapped. Just like that, the chance to fight at home was gone.

“Yeah, it sucked. I wanted to make my debut in my home city and it sucked. It was an ideal situation and I was disappointed,” Boser said to Sherdog.

Now, he will finally make the walk to the Octagon at UFC on ESPN 6 opposite Daniel Spitz. It will be Spitz’s first fight since June 2018, yet Boser doesn’t believe the ring rust will be a factor.

“I don’t think so. I don’t believe in ring rust or anything like that, I expect after the layoff he will be better at a lot of things,” he explained. It will not have an impact on his performance at all, but I too, have been getting better.” Boser believes Spitz’s game plan will be to get him down to the ground and test his jiu-jitsu. Boser is confident in his ground game, but he also knows it will be hard to even get him down. “If he attempts to take me down, he will have a hard time getting me there. If he does, I’ll get up. I have never been submitted so I’m not worried if it goes there,” Boser said. "It seems to be everyones go to when they fight me to try and take me down, I’m good on the ground and good at getting back up.”

Boser believes he can defeat Spitz regardless of where the fight takes place.

“I can knock him out for sure, just like he can knock me out. Anything is possible. I can win the fight wherever it goes, I only have two submissions on my record but it is underrated,” he said. "I’m also good at winning decisions.”

If Boser does get his hand raised, don’t expect him to call anyone out afterward.

“There are a lot of guys who are pretty green in the heavyweight division. I don’t think a win will skyrocket me anywhere, but a win will get me another fight and that is good for me,” he said. I just want another fight, I want to win a bunch of fights. I’m brand new, I have no business calling anyone out right now.”
