Magnus Cedenblad vs. Jared Hamman

Round 1

Cedenblad sticks a jab in Hamman’s face as they meet in the center of the cage, then pushes the American away with a kick as Hamman tries to close in. Hamman takes the center and looks to close the gap as Cedenblad circles counterclockwise around the outside. Cedenblad counters a low kick with a right hand, then snares Hamman’s head with his left arm as Hamman comes in to shoot. The Swede rolls to full mount with the choke in deep; Hamman struggles for a moment, then taps twice to submit.

The Result

Magnus Cedenblad def. Jared Hamman via Submission (Guillotine Choke) R1 0:57

Ryan Couture vs. Al Iaquinta

Round 1

Iaquinta comes looking for big punches from the bell, hooking shots to the sides of the head which are partially blocked by Couture’s glove. Couture gets off a couple hard low kicks, but Iaquinta responds with a ripping left to the body and a right hand up top. More body work from Iaquinta, then he wades in behind a jab to pop Couture with an uppercut. A hard overhand right from Iaquinta causes Couture to clinch up and move the fight to the fence. Iaquinta slips out and moves forward on Couture in the southpaw stance. Couture lands another hard leg kick, but this one is caught by Iaquinta and used to trip the Strikeforce vet to the ground. Couture pops up, eating some leather from Iaquinta on his way up. Iaquinta scores again with the left hand to the body and right hook to the head. Couture cracks him with a flying knee, and Iaquinta is sporting a little mouse under his right eye when they come away from the exchange. Iaquinta lands a left hook, Couture answers with a right high kick and right hand behind it. With 10 seconds left, Iaquinta hits a double-leg and closes out the round with some strong ground-and-pound.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Iaquinta
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Iaquinta
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Iaquinta

Round 2

Couture lands a hard leg kick and sweeps Iaquinta to the ground briefly. Iaquinta soon works back to his feet and resumes circling the outside, scoring with right hands over the low guard of Couture. Another big right hand smacks Couture’s face, and the son of the “Natural” again tries to clinch. Iaquinta isn’t having it, and now the Ray Longo student is on the offensive, marking up Couture’s mug with power shots. Couture misses with a front kick up the middle, lands some hard kicks to Iaquinta’s lead leg. Ref Yves Lavigne warns Couture to watch his fingers when striking, just before Iaquinta swipes a right across his face. Just like last round, Iaquinta hits another takedown with just seconds to go and finishes on top.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Iaquinta
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Iaquinta
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Iaquinta

Round 3

Couture wraps up Iaquinta and drags him down at the base of the fence. Iaquinta stands up, but Couture is tenacious and brings him to his knees again. Iaquinta stands again and escapes, then begins creeping forward on Couture to resume striking. Iaquinta dodges another hard front kick, lands a hook. Couture drills Iaquinta with a hard, flying knee on the jaw. It backs up Iaquinta momentarily, but he’s soon back to swinging hands, decking Couture with a huge right-hand counter off a leg kick. Iaquinta catches a shooting Couture in a front headlock and puts him on the cage to punish Couture with uppercuts, body shots and leg kicks. Couture won’t go down, absorbing heavy shots and somehow staying vertical against the fence. They come off the cage and Iaquinta grabs a Thai plum, then releases to slam Couture with a standing elbow. Couture is bloodied up now, and he finally hits the ground with 30 seconds left in the fight. He’s back up with 10 seconds on the clock; Iaquinta does not let up, continuing to batter Couture with punches in the final moments.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Iaquinta (30-27 Iaquinta)

Nikita Krylov vs. Soa Palelei

Round 1

Palelei catches the opening kick from Krylov and elevates the Ukrainian with a double-leg. Krylov is warned by ref Al Wichgers for holding the fence; once Krylov releases his grip, Palelei is able to finish the takedown and get to work from half-guard. Palelei works some ground-and-pound but leaves his left arm laying in Krylov’s guard. Krylov grabs hold of the limb and traps it under his right leg. Palelei bashes him with hammer fists until Krylov lets go, then steps into full mount and begins bashing Krylov with punches. Krylov rolls over and slips out the back door, then stands and blitzes Palelei with a barrage of punches against the fence. Palelei looks to be in danger before the big men clinch up and the Aussie is able to latch on to Krylov’s back. After escaping a standing Krylov kimura attempt, Palelei hits another takedown at the base of the fence. Krylov throws up a triangle which Palelei escapes to take side control. Palelei tries an unorthodox neck crank, hooking Krylov’s head and leg, and nearly gets himself caught in an armbar before the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Palelei
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Palelei
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Palelei

Round 2

Palelei gets another quick takedown against the fence and resumes working Krylov with short punches. Krylov rolls over and escapes to his feet in slow-motion, then gets taken down by Palelei again after a few seconds of business on the fence. There’s not much happening on the ground, so ref Wichgers stands them up. Krylov rushes a clearly exhausted Palelei and roughs him up with punches on the fence. Knees, uppercuts and hooks rock Palelei, who is leaning over and barely defending himself enough to stay in the fight. Palelei finally starts throwing punches in the last seconds of the round, but it’s all Krylov down the stretch.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Krylov
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Krylov
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Krylov

Round 3

Palelei slugs Krylov with a good right hand, but Krylov keeps coming and clinches the Australian against the fence. Krylov drops levels for a single-leg, and Palelei takes advantage of the position to thump his kneeling opponent with punches. Krylov goes to his back and Palelei steps into full mount, continuing to throw heavy hands as the ref hovers nearby. Krylov is not intelligently defending himself, so referee Wichgers steps in to halt the beating.

The Result

Soa Palelei def. Nikita Krylov via TKO (Punches) R3 1:34

Chico Camus vs. Kyung Ho Kang

Round 1

Kang pumps a long jab in Camus’ face as the bantamweights square off in the center of the cage. Camus comes forward with a good left hand, circles out and comes back with an overhand right. The next time Camus comes in to throw, Kang changes levels and hits an easy takedown to side control. Camus puts the Korean back in guard and keeps busy hips underneath as Kang tries to pass. Camus tries to attack the legs as Kang stands, nearly allowing Kang to take his back. Instead, Kang winds up back on top, almost in full mount, but Camus stuffs him back to half guard. Kang finally settles down long enough to drop a couple elbows on Camus’ face and move to side control. Kang stands and comes back down to the ground, not allowing Camus enough room to stand. Camus hits an omoplata sweep to get off his back just before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Kang
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Kang
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Kang

Kang stands up and slugs Camus with a couple good punches, but the “King” responds with a sharp up-kick. From half-guard, Kang frames up an arm-triangle and steps off to side control on Camus’ right side. Kang tries for a crucifix and gets swept by Camus, who drops a couple short elbows on Kang’s face as they scoot toward the fence. Camus pulls Kang’s hips out from under him to keep him on the ground and then tries for a choke. Kang pops his head free, but he’s still underneath Camus, eating hard punches. Kang gets busy with elbows from his back in the last 20 seconds, answered by more heavy blows from Camus.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Camus
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Camus
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Camus

Round 3

Camus hits a brief single-leg, but Kang quickly pops back up. The bantamweights exchange right hands in the pocket before Kang launches forward to slap Camus with a body kick. Camus is bleeding from the corner of his left eye after the exchange, but comes forward to deck Kang with a right hook anyway. Kang stops the strikes with a double-leg takedown away from the fence, and “Mr. Perfect” sets up in half-guard on Camus’ left side. Halfway through the final round, Kang is keeping heavy on top, standing to adjust his position and coming back down to flatten Camus. With 1:50 on the clock, Camus kicks Kang away and scrambles up. Camus clips Kang with a left hand, and Kang melts to the ground. Camus tries to pounce, but Kang regains his senses and overpowers the Roufusport product to take top position once more. Down to the final minute, Kang works from Camus’ guard, keeping busy with punches as Camus leans back to draw a deep breath. Camus pops Kang with an upkick in the last seconds of the fight but can’t polish him off with punches before time runs out.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Camus (29-28 Camus)
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Camus (29-28 Camus)

Pascal Krauss vs. Hyun Gyu Lim

Round 1

Krauss flicks leg kicks inside while the southpaw Lim switches stances back and forth, throwing hard, wide hooks. Krauss gets into the punching action, too, and now both welterweights are bombing at one another’s head. Lim catches a kick and trips Krauss to the ground, but he allows the Roufusport fighter back up to continue striking. After eating a jab, Lim comes back with a sweeping right. The next jab by Krauss draws a head nod in acknowledgement from Lim. The Korean fighter scores with a hard left hook as the welterweights continue exchanging. A short right straight from Lim catches Krauss and takes the legs out from under “Panzer.” Krauss is still trying to recover, tilting across the Octagon as Lim patiently stalks him and picks his punches. Krauss dives on a double-leg, gets sprawled on and stands back up. Krauss is stumbling as Lim hits him with another pair of right hands, then a knee to the face which finally sends Krauss to the ground and forces referee Rob Hinds into action.

The Result

Hyun Gyu Lim def. Pascal Krauss via KO (Punches and Knee) R1 3:58

Tim Elliott vs. Louis Gaudinot

Round 1

Elliott lands a couple leg kicks inside, but the fingers of his outstretched hand poke Gaudinot in the eye after just 15 seconds of fighting. Ref Herb Dean issues Elliott a verbal warning as Gaudinot recovers, and the flyweights get back to work. Gaudinot charges at Elliott, who is waiting to change levels and take “Goodnight” to the floor. Elliott tries a guillotine from guard and nearly gets flipped over the top, but he keeps heavy hips and stays on top. Gaudinot tries an armbar which forces Elliott to stand, and they resume striking. Leg kicks are working for Gaudinot now, while Elliott leaps in with a flying knee and pushes off with a front kick. Elliott tries to tumble into range with a forward roll and gets clipped by Gaudinot as he stands. Unfazed, Elliott keeps pushing forward to take down Gaudinot again. Elliott lands some heavy left hands on top before Gaudinot can establish his guard and cover up to deflect the strikes. Gaudinot tries to shift his hips underneath, can’t get out from underneath. Elliott stands and comes back with an axe kick to the body before allowing Gaudinot to stand. Elliott pins him against the fence and gets busy with knees and uppercuts, then puts Gaudinot on his back again with 30 seconds on the clock. Gaudinot is leaking blood from his nose as Elliott continues to pound away till the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Elliott
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Elliott
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Elliott

Round 2

Elliott moves Gaudinot around the outside with knees and push kicks before tying up on the fence. Gaudinot shoves off and just misses with a spinning back-fist before being walked down against the cage on the other side. Elliott is doing well to duck Gaudinot’s punches and get out of range, mostly sticking to the outside and working with kicks. Two minutes into the round, Elliott puts a two-piece combination in Gaudinot’s face and follows up with a knee. Gaudinot plucks his man with a right hand and jogs backward to reset. Elliott plows Gaudinot down with a double leg with 2:00 on the clock, then postures up to drop hammer fists and elbows on Gaudinot’s body and green hair. Gaudinot is doing his best to keep high hips and avoid the damage, but Elliott is too powerful on top, repeatedly coming back down to half-guard and roughing up the New Yorker with punches. As the 10-second clapper sounds, Elliott dives for a half-hearted leglock, drawing a theatrical finger wag from Gaudinot.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Elliott
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Elliott
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Elliott

Round 3

Gaudinot gets off a right hand and an inside leg kick before being taken down once again. Elliott shoves his opponent toward the fence, staying active with elbow strikes while Gaudinot shrimps underneath and tries to escape. Gaudinot gets to his feet and puts a hand on the ground to avoid knees to the head, so Elliott knees the body instead. The flyweights separate and Gaudinot charges forward with a kick, then gets clipped with a spinning back-fist and taken back to the canvas in the center of the cage. Elliott has a partial crucifix, striking from Gaudinot’s back, then turns it into full mount. It doesn’t last long, as Gaudinot hip-escapes to regain half guard, but he’s not out of the woods. Elliott keeps a steady stream of left hands coming, then changes to rough, slamming elbows on Gaudinot’s chin and ear. Gaudinot has ceased any offense from the bottom in the last 60 seconds, as Elliott simply overwhelms him on top with relentless elbows and left hands to close out the fight.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Elliott (30-27 Elliott)
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Elliott (30-27 Elliott)

Gleison Tibau vs. Jamie Varner

Round 1

Varner cuts angles around the outside, pawing at the southpaw Tibau with jabs and landing a couple good kicks inside which nearly take out Tibau’s lead leg. A body shot lands for Varner, and he dips back out before Tibau can connect with a counter right. Tibau tries to send a straight punch down the pipe, can’t quite find the range. Varner comes in reckless with a left straight and gets clipped with a right hand. With 70 seconds left in the round, Tibau catches a kick and drives Varner to the ground. Varner tries to work back to his feet with his back against the cage, but the Brazilian keeps him grounded. In the last 15 seconds, Varner finally stands, only Tibau maintains back control and presses “C4” against the fence to the finish of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Tibau
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Tibau
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Varner

Round 2

Varner tries to jump guard with a guillotine, but the choke is loose and Tibau quickly pulls his head free. Tibau takes his time, keeping Varner in check on the ground before stepping into full mount. Varner gives up his back momentarily, then flips over and wraps his arms around Tibau to try and neutralize the Brazilian’s offense. Tibau stays busy with rough punches to the head and body until Varner turns over again. Now it’s back-mount for Tibau, who flattens out his foe and looks for a rear-naked choke until Varner turns to his back again. Varner tries to wall-walk and escape, but Tibau is in good position to maintain full mount. The Milwaukee crowd jeers as Tibau stays on top with 30 seconds left, so Tibau peppers Varner with punches until the horn sounds.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Tibau
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Tibau
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Tibau

Round 3

Tibau sticks a jab in the face of Varner, who creeps out from the center and taps Tibau with a straight right hand on the chin, then one to the gut. The next punch from Varner is ducked under by Tibau, who completes another takedown along the outside. Varner is up within seconds, then sprints away from Tibau to reset. Varner bombs Tibau with a pair of hard hooks to the body, clinches briefly, releases and lands another body blow. Nice one-two lands for Tibau, but Varner keeps coming to score with a right of his own against the fence. Tibau stuffs a shot, then has a single-leg of his own denied. A huge right hand from Varner puts Tibau on rubber legs, and Varner takes advantage to put the Brazilian on his back with 1:45 left in the fight. Varner is in half guard on Tibau’s right, throwing left hands and elbows to try and force a late stoppage. Tibau isn’t scoring any offense of his own, but he’s wrapping up Varner enough in between strikes to stay in the fight and out of any major trouble. Varner stands up and throws one final right hand to Tibau’s body; at the horn, both lightweights stand and raise their arms.

Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier

Round 1

Poirier sticks a left straight down the middle to counter a body kick from Koch. A left hand on the temple sends Koch to the ground, and Poirier tries to pounce and finish off his wounded opponent, but Koch throws up a triangle and cinches it up. The Roufusport fighter keeps the triangle locked on as Poirier tries to squirm loose, and after a moment of struggle, Poirier pulls his head free. Another triangle attempt from Koch leads Poirier to stand and invite his opponent to do the same. The featherweight lock up on the fence, Poirier on the outside, and they exchange knees in the clinch. Koch is already bleeding from his nose when a huge right hook from Poirier sends him to the ground. Poirier is all over him this time, trying to finish with heavy ground-and-pound through Koch’s guard. Koch struggles to his feet and gets tossed right back down to the floor, where Poirier sets up a brabo choke. The choke is fully sunk, turning Koch’s face a deep crimson, but the local favorite rides it out for the final 10 seconds and survives to see round two.

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-8 Poirier
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Poirier

Round 2

The frenetic pace slows slightly in the opening minute of round two, with both fighters feeling the range on the feet. Koch snipes with jabs and straights, but Poirier sticks a nice right straight of his own before dragging Koch down at the foot of the fence. Poirier attaches himself to the kneeling Koch’s back and tries to apply a neck crank, but Koch gets free and rolls over, surrendering full mount. Poirier gets too high in the mount and Koch is able to walk back up. Koch is sporting a sizeable mouse beneath his right eye as Poirier continues to hold him on the fence and land elbows inside. They separate inside the final minute and Poirier walks down Koch along the outside as they circle counterclockwise. Koch gets in a good knee as Poirier comes in to clinch at the end of the frame.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Poirier
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Poirier

Poirier clinches up and puts Koch’s back to the cage, then resumes roughing up “New Breed” with elbows and body blows. Ref Rob Hinds calls for action as the pace slows, and Koch is able to stuff a trip attempt and send Poirier to his back. Koch comes down to Poirier’s guard and flattens out the “Diamond” as Poirier tries to swing his legs for an armbar or an escape. Koch is scoring with some solid punches on top until Poirier is able to wrap him up and drill some elbows from the bottom. Koch rolls Poirier and takes the back in one move, but Poirier postures up and nearly shakes Koch off. Koch stays on the back, though, and keeps trying for a rear-naked choke as the final 20 seconds tick away.

Ben Rothwell vs. Brandon Vera

Round 1

Rothwell is pressing the action in the early going, closing in on Vera, who cuts angles back and forth along the perimeter. A couple big right hands from Rothwell sting Vera, but “The Truth” responds with a thunderous body kick and a couple to Rothwell’s legs. A left hook-right straight combo lands for Rothwell; he tries to chase Vera down and takes a left hand to the nose which opens up a small cut. Another cracking body kick scores for Vera, and he circles out once again, allowing Rothwell to lumber after him. Another pair of body kicks from Vera draw a big right hand from Rothwell, then an inside leg kick and a missed head kick. Rothwell shakes his head in frustration as Vera slips out of the way of a pair of punches. Rothwell puts a kick square on Vera’s cup just before the end of the round, and ref Herb Dean calls for a pause before time runs out. Vera recovers and the fight resumes just in time for the round to end.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Vera
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Vera
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Vera

Round 2

The big men exchange leg kicks early in the round until Rothwell opts to close the distance and clinch on the cage. They separate after a couple knees from Rothwell, and Vera sneaks a right hand around Rothwell’s guard. A body-head combo allows Rothwell to get inside and press Vera against the fence again. More knees are exchanged inside before ref Dean warns Rothwell not to grab the chain-link while holding Vera on the fence. Rothwell scores with an uppercut and clinches, but Vera separates after landing a nice elbow. Another standing elbow connects for Vera as the heavyweights continue to trade in fits and starts. Vera tries a single-leg and gets stood up; Rothwell puts him against the fence and tags Vera with a right hand and an elbow. Vera goes to the body with a pair of hooks, circles out and makes Rothwell whiff with a lunging left. Vera gets off a counter left cross and blocks a Rothwell head kick at the end of the round.

A pair of punches on the temple dazes Vera, and Rothwell pours on the punishment with hooks, knees and an uppercut that sends Vera to the floor. Vera is turtling as Rothwell tacks on a couple more punches, and ref Herb Dean steps in to call it off.

The Result

Ben Rothwell def. Brandon Vera via TKO (Punches and Knees) R3 1:54

Chad Mendes vs. Clay Guida

Round 1

Guida begins his frenetic bouncing and feinting as soon as the bell sounds, with Mendes keeping to the outside, looking to counter. Guida puts a left hook on Mendes’ cheek as the featherweights wade in and out of range. Mendes clips Guida with a right and then shuts down a shot, snaring “The Carpenter” in a guillotine as they tumble to the ground. Guida twists loose and stands up, bleeding beneath his left eye. Ninety seconds left in the opening round and Guida continues to bop around outside, swinging wild punches until Mendes clinches up and trips him to the ground. Mendes sits up in Guida’s open guard and drops a couple elbows, but Guida does well to wrap him up and avoid any further offense.

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Mendes
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Mendes

Round 2

The 145ers get in a tight exchange early in round two, prompting ref Yves Lavigne to warn them about clashing heads. Mendes lands a snappy leg kick, caught by Guida, who pulls up short on the counter hook. Guida lands a leaping shin to Mendes’ cup and puts a punch on his chest before ref Lavigne can call time. Guida gets a verbal warning while Mendes recovers, which takes only about 30 seconds. Guida apologizes, the eats a leg kick and has a shot stuffed against the fence. Mendes spins to take Guida’s back, but Guida sits down and doesn’t allow the wrestler to get hooks in. Mendes waits for Guida to stand and nails a knee to the head of the Carpenter. Now, Guida sprawls on a half-shot from Mendes, then comes back to try a double-leg of his own. Mendes stuffs it, then stands Guida up against the fence. Guida lands a knee inside before being tossed to the ground, where Mendes turns the corner to take his back again. Mendes traps Guida’s arm behind his back as Guida stands, then takes the veteran down again when they meet on the other side of the cage. Guida gets up again, taking a knee to the body in the process. A leaping kick slaps Mendes’ chest, and “Money” gives Guida a crisp right in return.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Mendes
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Mendes
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Mendes

Round 3

Guida struggles to his feet and is met with a crushing right hook that sends him straight back down. A couple more rights from Mendes is all it takes to get a stoppage from referee Lavigne.

The Result

Chad Mendes def. Clay Guida via TKO (Punches) R3 0:30

Frank Mir vs. Josh Barnett

Round 1

Mir lands a left hand, then three or four short rights in the clinch as the big men tangle near the fence. Barnett comes back with an uppercut, then a knee to the body, pushing Mir against the cage. More uppercuts get through for Barnett, just mashing Mir against the cage. Barnett pulls Mir down and drills him with a huge knee to the head, and that’s all it takes for referee Rob Hinds to jump into action. Mir hops up immediately to protest the stoppage, but it’s too late.

The Result

Josh Barnett def. Frank Mir via TKO (Knee) R1 1:56

Benson Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis

Round 1

Referee Herb Dean is the third man in the cage for tonight’s lightweight championship main event. Henderson moves quickly across the cage to grab a single-leg and works to take Pettis down for the better part of the opening minute. Pettis balances on one leg, then regains his footing and gets off the fence. The fighters are only separated for a moment before Henderson comes back to try another single. This one is quickly abandoned in favor of a right hand and knees to Pettis’ body. Pettis widens his base as Henderson changes to a double-leg, then waits out the attempt as Henderson knees at his legs. Pettis steps in and puts his leg across Henderson’s midsection, then drives a punch to the same spot, followed by three more kicks. “Showtime” gets fancy and tries a hand-plant kick which allows Henderson to get on top. Pettis swings his legs around and traps Henderson’s left arm, then goes belly-down to try and extend the armbar. Henderson’s right arm is trapped, too, so it comes as a surprise when Pettis releases and gets to his feet. When Pettis raises his arms and Herb Dean waves his, it becomes clear: Henderson verbally submitted, and Anthony Pettis is the new UFC lightweight champion.

The Result

Anthony Pettis def. Benson Henderson via Submission (Armbar) R1 4:31
