Christian Colombo vs. Marcelo Golm

Round 1

Golm connects with a heavy left hook in his opening combination, followed by a leg kick and a jab. Colombo eats a couple more shots to the face as he backs up against the fence, and Golm begins teeing off with a flurry of punches, trying to put away "Godzilla" inside the first minute. Colombo clinches with Golm to slow the assault, but Golm trips him to the floor and passes straight to full mount. Colombo eats a couple left hands from Golm before turning to his side, nearly giving up his back. Colombo finally gives up his back with 3:30 on the clock, and Golm secures the positions with hooks. Colombo peels away one hook, but Golm has him trapped against the wall on one knee. Golm applies a rear-naked choke that has Colombo tapping almost instantly, and the Brazilian newcomer earns a quick submission win in his Octagon debut.

The Official Result

Marcelo Golm def. Christian Colombo via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 2:08

Jarred Brooks vs. Deiveson Figueiredo

Round 1

Figueiredo looks to initiate a clinch in the opening 30 seconds; Brooks escapes the clinch and goes back to circling the outside. Brooks shoots a double-leg in the center of the cage, gets stood up and shoved against the wall by Figueiredo, who lands a hard knee to the American's gut in the tie-up. Brooks reverses to the outside position, drops for another double, and this time lifts Figueiredo into the air. Brooks walks the Brazilian to the center of the cage and slams him down, now postures up in Figueiredo's tight closed guard with three minutes left in the opening round. A couple hard left hands connect for Brooks, while Figueiredo tries to wrap up and force referee Mario Yamasaki into a stand-up. Figueiredo opens his guard and shrimps underneath, flipping Brooks over the top to scramble back to his feet. Brooks dives on another double-leg and again slams Figueiredo to the floor, this time breaking up a guillotine attempt as they hit the mat. Brooks keeps Figueiredo trapped at the base of the fence for the final minute of the round, working some grinding ground-and-pound, much to the displeasure of the Sao Paulo crowd.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Brooks
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Brooks
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Brooks

Round 2

Brooks ducks under a wide hook from Figueiredo and tries to get a rear waistlock, but Figueiredo spins around and underhooks the "Monkey God" against the cage. Figueiredo releases after a few seconds in the clinch, now catches Brooks with a clean right cross and a knee to the body. Brooks circles around the outside, then reverses course and shoots another double-leg. Figueiredo snatches a guillotine as he's taken down, and the choke looks tight at first, but Brooks powers his way out of it and winds up in top position. Figueiredo kicks him away and scrambles up, now chasing after Brooks with three minutes left in the round. Figueiredo winds up for a big lead uppercut, but Brooks sees it coming and dives under it for another takedown. "Daico" catches Brooks in another guillotine; once again, Brooks is able to muscle his way out of a tight situation, popping his head free to set up in Figueiredo's guard. Brooks postures up to drop a couple hard right hands on Figueiredo's face. Figueiredo tries to scramble up, but Brooks gets on his back and roll him to the ground. Referee Yamasaki pauses the action and warns Brooks for grabbing Figueiredo's shorts in the sequence, and the fight resumes on the feet. Figueiredo snaps off a few jabs and hits a trip takedown in the closing moments of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Figueiredo
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Figueiredo
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Figueiredo

Round 3

Brooks hits a takedown in the first 20 seconds of the final frame, but Figueiredo lands in the whizzer and tries to take the American's back. Brooks prevents the back-take, so Figueiredo jumps guard with another guillotine attempt. Again, Brooks peels away the arm around his neck and pops his head loose. The flyweights scramble up, Brooks tries another slam, but it takes a second effort to plant Figueiredo on the floor. Figueiredo stands up immediately, Brooks still wrapped around his waist with a bodylock. Brooks traps Figueiredo against the wall and lands knees to the Brazilian's legs, while Figueiredo looks at the referee, apparently wanting him to separate the fighters. Figueiredo is taken down again and this time looks for a kimura from guard, but Brooks frees his arm. Figueiredo climbs back to his feet and starts chasing after Brooks with right hands to the body and head, again headhunting with a big lead uppercut. Figueiredo's hands are by his waist as he marches forward on Brooks, who looks to be fading a bit after two and a half rounds of hard work and takedowns. Figueiredo lands a body kick, but Brooks catches the kick and trips him to the floor as they hit the final 60 seconds. Back up comes Figueiredo, chasing after Brooks, looking for a late finish to avoid the judges' scorecards. Brooks hits one final takedown, gets caught in another guillotine, but rips his head free just before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Figueiredo (29-28 Figueiredo)

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos vs. Max Griffin

Round 1

Griffin comes out firing hard jabs and long right hands over the top, backing up dos Santos to the fence. Dos Santos and Griffin both come charging with flying knees at the same time, but wind up tangling and engaging in a brief clinch on the wall. Dos Santos starts to find his jab now, opening up a cut on the right cheek of Griffin in the second minute of the bout. "Capoeira" tries a double-leg shot, but Griffin defends the takedown with ease. Griffin runs into a jab-right straight from dos Santos, but the American keeps coming forward. Dos Santos catches a charging Griffin off-balance but can't capitalize on the stumble. Griffin steps into the pocket and gets a hard knee to the body. Suddenly, a counter right hook from Griffin wobbles the legs of dos Santos, who drops to his guard near the center of the cage. Griffin pounces but gets kicked away, and dos Santos is able to jump back to his feet after only a few seconds. Dos Santos stings Griffin with a nasty knee to the body and follows up with a swarm of hooks, forcing Griffin to stagger backward under fire. Dos Santos knocks Griffin to his knees and tries to pound him out, then goes to take the back instead. Griffin defends the Brazilian's choke attempt and climbs back to his feet, only to be assaulted up against the fence with a nonstop barrage of punches. Referee Jerin Valel gives the wobbly Griffin every chance to stay in the fight, and "Max Pain" somehow stays on his feet to be saved by the bell.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 dos Santos
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-8 dos Santos
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 dos Santos

Round 2

Griffin walks into a few combinations from dos Santos in the early moments of round two, but he manages to fend off the first takedown attempt from "Capoeira." Dos Santos is taking his time, sitting back and sizing up Griffin, who is noticably slower in his movements than he was in the opening round. Griffin catches dos Santos throwing a spinning kick and takes his back on the turn-around, then drops the Brazilian to his seat with a short punch. Dos Santos springs back up, only to be held against the wall by Griffin with an underhook. Dos Santos looks to clinch and knee, forcing Griffin to release, and now the welterweights go back to the center of the cage with half the round remaining. Dos Santos is slowing down, too, his hands dipping low, and his next double-leg shot doesn't even come close to taking down Griffin. Ninety seconds left in the round as dos Santos tries to rip a body shot from a mile out, instead being picked off by Griffin's jab. Dos Santos lands a lead uppercut and runs Griffin against the fence with 30 seconds left. Griffin eats a knee in the clinch for the last meaningful offense of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Griffin
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Griffin
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Griffin

Round 3

Dos Santos tries unsuccessfully to land a few spinning kicks in an uneventful opening minute to the final round. He jumps inside behind a jab and smacks Griffin with a hard right hand, but Griffin seems unfazed as he cracks back at the Brazilian with a right of his own. Dos Santos times a Griffin low kick perfectly and tags "Max Pain" with another straight right. Another right hand turns the head of Griffin, but instead of trying to continue striking, dos Santos moves in to clinch and pins Griffin against the wall. Dos Santos grabs the Thai clinch and hits Griffin with two or three knees before Griffin is able to escape. The right hand of dos Santos backs up Griffin to the fence once again, now inside the final 90 seconds of the fight. Griffin tries to escape but is hugged against the cage until the 50-second mark, when dos Santos releases and starts slinging leather, now a knee to the body. Griffin comes back with a right hand over the top, but it's a single shot up against several heavy combinations from dos Santos. Dos Santos goes to the clinch once again and keeps Griffin there until time runs out.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 dos Santos (29-28 dos Santos)

Hacran Dias vs. Jared Gordon

Round 1

Dias eats a jab that splits his gloves, but he cracks back at Gordon with an uppercut that sends the New Yorker dashing out of the pocket. Dias initiates a brief clinch, broken up by Gordon, who catches a leg kick and shoves the Brazilian to the floor at the base of the fence. Dias wraps up tight from the bottom, then posts and stands, but Gordon is still clinging to him, looking for another takedown. Dias escapes to the center of the cage, changes levels to try a takedown of his own and gets stood up by Gordon, who's now sporting a cut on the outside of his right eye. Dias slings a right hand over the top, but it's Gordon bringing the pressure, constantly closing in on Dias from the center of the cage. Dias catches Gordon leaning in and pops him with an uppercut but Gordon is again able to deny the Nova Uniao fighter's takedown try. The lightweights both connect with right hands in an exchange, and now Dias goes back to backpedaling, while Gordon keeps marching forward. Dias zaps Gordon with three consecutive right hands, but Gordon just keeps coming. Dias puts a left hand on the eye-adjacent cut of Brooks, which instant replay shows was caused by a clash of heads earlier in the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Dias
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Dias
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Dias

Round 2

Dias starts the round on his back foot again, under constant forward pressure from Gordon, who shoots for an early takedown. Dias stands him up, then separates from the clinch, but Gordon comes straight back inside to tie up on the fence. Dias breaks out of the clinch, then wraps up Gordon on his own terms and trips him to the ground in the middle. Gordon uses a whizzer to climb straight back to his feet, still keeping his hands in Dias' face, and now Dias looks to be fading, unsteady on his feet as he eats punches from the speedier "Flash." Gordon scores with an uppercut, eats a pair of shots from Dias and then resumes his forward march. Gordon gets the clinch again and begins mugging Dias on the fence, roughing up the Brazilian with constant shots to the body and head. Gordon scores a takedown with 1:45 on the clock, then grabs the fence to keep Dias on the ground. Dias eats several heavy shots to his unprotected face before he's able to get a knee shield inside and reclaim half guard. Gordon is pounding away with hammerfists while referee Fernando Portella has a close look. Dias tries to roll underneath for a leglock, but Gordon pulls free and steps over to full mount. Dias covers up with both hands and narrowly survives to the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-8 Gordon
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-8 Gordon
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Gordon

Round 3

Gordon comes straight after Dias as the final round begins, snapping off jabs in the tired Brazilian's face. Dias still looks out of sorts after nearly being finished at the end of round two, and he offers little resistance as Gordon shoves him against the wall to land a pair of uppercuts. Dias reverses to the outside, so Gordon shoves him away and then resets the clinch on the other side of the cage. Brooks pins Dias to the wall with an underhook and works the body of Dias with short punches. Dias defends a single-leg shot and shoves Gordon away, but it looks as if "Barnabe" can barely lift his arms at this point. Referee Portella calls time as Dias takes a finger in his left eye from Gordon's outstretched hand. Dias only takes a few seconds to recover, and the lightweights are back to business with half a round remaining. Dias reverses a Gordon takedown with a whizzer, but before he can set up in top position, Gordon reverses him back and comes out on top in Dias' half guard. That looks like it will just about seal it, as Gordon traps Dias in the crucifix and starts landing punches. Referee Portella nearly stops the fight, and Gordon looks to give up the position as a result, but the fight continues. Gordon remains on top for the final minute, mashing away on his helpless, exhausted opponent. Dias tries to throw up a last-ditch armbar, but Gordon locks his hands together and defends the sub attempt for the final seconds of the bout.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Gordon (29-27 Gordon)
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Gordon (29-27 Gordon)

Antonio Carlos Jr. vs. Jack Marshman

Round 1

Carlos takes the center of the cage and tries to close the distance on Marshman, who hops around the outside, staying out of striking range of the larger middleweight. Both men land low kicks and touch with jabs, but it's Carlos who cracks Marshman with the first big right hand of the round. Marshman catches a kick but can't trip up "Cara de Sapato," who reverses and trips the Welshman to the floor a few feet away from the wall. Marshman wraps up tight from the bottom while Carlos looks to advance past half guard on Marshman's right side. Marshman breaks up an arm-triangle setup, so Carlos tries a shoulder choke instead. Marshman keeps his hands clasped, arms wrapped around the Brazilian, until Carlos goes knee-on-chest and postures up to land a couple punches. Carlos takes full mount with 70 seconds on the clock, drops a couple shots on Marshman's face and looks for the arm-triangle again. Marshman gives up his back with 35 seconds on the clock, and it's only a matter of moments before "Shoeface" slaps on a rear-naked choke to force a tap.

The Official Result

Antonio Carlos Jr. def. Jack Marshman via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 4:30

Vicente Luque vs. Niko Price

Round 1

Luque works from the center of the cage in the opening minute, landing a pair of leg kicks on Price, who cuts angles and feints around the outside. An early jab from Price reddens the nose of the Brazilian. Now it's Luque stinging Price with a corkscrew left hand, followed by more kicks for the left leg of the American. Price continues to work behind his jab, but he's absorbing some hard shots to the leg as Luque walks him down. Luque eats a jab but comes over the top with a right hand that gets the attention of Price. Inside the final 90 seconds of round one, Luque continues to control the center of the cage, keeping Price on the outside. Price gets caught reaching and takes a left hook on the jaw. The left hook lands again for Luque when Price steps inside and gets caught standing in the pocket. Price eats a jump knee in the closing moments of the round, tries to reclaim some ground with a late flurry of punches but can't find the mark on Luque.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Luque
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Luque
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Luque

Round 2

Luque snipes at Price with more low kicks and a nice left hand in the first exchanges of the round. Price comes alive with a five- or six-punch combo that partially lands, drawing a smile from Luque as he resets. Luque is still chopping away at Price's left leg, while Price remains relatively inactive, always on his back foot, waiting to counter. Luque is leaving Price few widows for countering, landing jabs and kicks from distance, quickly escaping the pocket whenever he steps inside. Price has effectively frozen up, and Luque takes the opportunity to come sailing at his stunned opponent with a flying knee. Price's left eye is a mess now, with swelling underneath and blood leaking from the outside corner. Price attempts a takedown but is denied by Luque, who comes back swinging a big right hand. It's a left hand to the jaw which puts Price on the floor, and Luque pounces to try a D'arce choke setup. It looks like Price will escape to his feet, but just as he goes to stand, Luque adjusts the choke and rips him back to the ground, where Price immediately taps out.

The Official Result

Vicente Luque def. Niko Price via Submission (Brabo Choke) R2 4:08

John Lineker vs. Marlon Vera

Round 1

Vera lines up in the southpaw stance in the center of the cage, towering above the 5-foot-3 Lineker, who works cautiously around the outside. Neither flyweight looks to be in any rush to engage, with a full minute ticking off the clock before Vera hits Lineker with a hard leg kick. Vera backs up Lineker with a blocked high kick, then goes back to the legs with a pair of kicks. Vera switches to orthodox as he goes to his back foot, now with Lineker pressing forward. Lineker's offense still hasn't picked up, although he has touched Vera with a few low kicks. The Brazilian crowd starts to boo the lack of action, then comes alive when Lineker steps forward on Vera with a left hand to the body. Back to the body goes Lineker, this time followed by a left hook to the jaw of "Chito." Vera gets backed up to the wall, where he covers up as Lineker goes body-head with a heavy surge of punches.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Lineker
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Lineker
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Lineker

Round 2

Lineker catches a kick but can't capitalize on it before Vera pulls away and circles off. Lineker whiffs on a spinning kick and takes a pair of kicks to the legs before he's able to close in on Vera and land a few shots against the fence. Vera eats a straight right, tries to surprise Lineker with a question mark kick, and Lineker comes away from the exchange smiling. Vera grabs the shorter man in the Thai clinch and tries to decapitate Lineker with knees up the middle, but Lineker pulls away and goes back to punching with 3:00 on the clock. Lineker is loading up with big right hands now, now sticks an overhand left on Vera's jaw. Vera creates space with a long left hand and a leg kick, now another low kick which draws a grin from the Brazilian. Vera is showing off his beard as he absorbs some heavy right hands from Lineker, who trips the Ecuadorian to the floor in the center of the cage with 40 seconds left. Lineker tries to pound out Vera with elbows and left hands on the canvas, but Vera climbs back to his feet just before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Lineker
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Lineker
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Lineker

Round 3

Lineker swings his way into the pocket and shoves Vera against the wall when "Chito" tries to use the Thai clinch. The 135ers separate and move back to the center of the cage, where Vera lands a jump knee and narrowly misses with a left high kick. Lineker catches a kick, blocks a knee in the Thai clinch and hustles Vera back to the fence, where they stay until the 3:20 mark. Vera continues to chop at Lineker's legs, now goes to the body; Lineker answers with a ripping right hook to Vera's ribs. Vera is doing well to keep Lineker at range in this round, countering the smaller man's advances with high knees. Vera continues to try and find a knockout knee in the Thai plum, but Lineker is wary of the strikes and blocks them each time before shoving Vera against the fence. Vera is still trying to find Lineker's chin with knees and kicks when the final horn sounds.

Jack Hermansson vs. Thiago Santos

Round 1

Hermansson comes out bouncing on his toes in front of Santos, who switches between southpaw and orthodox stance in the early feeling-out process. Santos lands the first hard shot of the bout with a left hand to the face and a heavy kick to the body. Hermansson reacts with a double-leg shot against the fence, now switches to a single, and finally an underhook to pin "Marreta" to the wall. Santos breaks loose and starts unloading on Hermansson with heavy punches, busting through Hermansson's high guard with a huge left hook. Hermansson recovers from the assault and steps forward again with half the round remaining. Santos starts to pick at the "Joker" from range, as Hermansson now looks much more hesitant to engage in striking exchanges. Santos lands a leaping body kick, followed by a left hook, then hits Hermansson with the same combination again in the final 10 seconds of the round. Hermansson hits the deck and Santos pounces all over him, blasting the Norwegian with piston-like punches. Referee Jerin Valel waits for the downed fighter to show some sign of life, but with Hermansson fetal on the ground, the ref steps in to stop the bout just as the round ends.

The Official Result

Thiago Santos def. Jack Hermansson via TKO (Punches) R1 4:59

Jim Miller vs. Francisco Trinaldo

Round 1

Trinaldo eats a right hand from Miller in order to give a harder right hook back to the New Jerseyan, and suddenly Miller is on his back foot with his back near the fence. Miller catches a kick from "Massaranduba" and trips him to the ground, but Trinaldo comes out on top in the scramble and now sets up in Miller's full guard. Trinaldo stands over Miller, who's prone at the base of the fence, and now the Brazilian striker allows Miller back to his feet. Halfway through the round, Miller explodes into a double-leg and plows Trinaldo to the ground. Trinaldo wraps up tight on the bottom, looking for a stand-up command from referee Osiris Maia, but Miller stays just busy enough to keep the fight on the floor. The ref brings the fighters back to their feet with 15 seconds on the clock, just long enough for Trinaldo to graze Miller's jaw with a jump knee.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Miller
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Miller
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Miller

Round 2

Both southpaws connect with left hands in the first 30 seconds of the round, but the punches of "Massaranduba" look to have a little more force behind them. Trinaldo blocks a takedown attempt and whips back at Miller with a heavy left hand over the top. Miller is finding some success with leg kick-left hand combinations toward the middle of the round, but now Trinaldo begins to mix up his attacks with heavy body blows. Trinaldo blocks a shot from Miller and reverses for a takedown of his own, but Miller grabs a guillotine as he drops to guard. Trinaldo quickly steps over to half guard, then works his head loose from the headlock. With one minute left, Trinaldo works from Miller's half guard, posturing up with several heavy left hands for the American. Miller shrimps underneath with a deep half guard to ride out the final seconds of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Trinaldo
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Trinaldo
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Trinaldo

Round 3

Miller comes out in orthodox stance for the final round, but it doesn't seem to matter to Trinaldo, who continues to rip left hands over the top. Miller gets caught leaning in for a shot and eats a jump knee from Trinaldo, who keeps the grappler on his knees for a few seconds. Miller climbs back to his feet and is greeted by a malicious left hand to the breadbasket. Trinaldo keeps going to the liver with his left hand, and Miller has dropped his right arm to protect his body. Trinaldo is marching on Miller with impunity now, going straight through Miller's occasional punches to land heavier blows of his own. Miller tries to tie up midway through the round and gets spun around, his back pinned to the wall by "Massaranduba" with an underhook. The lightweights separate with two minutes remaining, circling one another for 30 seconds before Trinaldo catches a kick and trips Miller to the canvas. Trinaldo makes things uncomfortable for Miller with a can opener and short, stapling elbows to the face; Miller, meanwhile, tries to isolate an arm, but is unable to do so as Trinaldo mashes him from top position until the final horn.

Sherdog Scores

Rob Font vs. Pedro Munhoz

Round 1

The bantamweights trade low kicks in the early going, with one shot from Munhoz nearly taking out the lead leg of his oncoming opponent. Font is the taller and longer man, and he's using his range to jab at Munhoz from range in the first round. Munhoz is marked up, bloody-nosed less than two minutes into the bout, and now he's pawing at the inside corner of his left eye. Munhoz dives on a heel hook, but Font pulls his leg free and gets back to striking distance. Munhoz rips the body of Font with a right hand and follows up with a corking left hook upstairs. Font eats another left hand from the "Young Punisher," but the American is hanging tough and continuing to pump his jab on Munhoz's damaged nose. Font denies a takedown attempt from Munhoz, but as they come back upright, Munhoz blasts him with a heavy left hook. Font dives desperately for a takedown, but Munhoz is waiting with a guillotine choke. Munhoz drops to guard, then rolls to full mount with the guillotine still locked on, and Font has no choice but to tap out.

The Official Result

Pedro Munhoz def. Rob Font via Submission (Guillotine Choke) R1 4:03

Colby Covington vs. Demian Maia

Round 1

The southpaws square up in the center of the cage, where Maia comes over the top of the wrestler's low guard with a slapping left hand. Maia lands the left twice more, each time backing out of Covington's range as soon as the strike is delivered. Covington eats the left again, and this one has the wrestler backing up. Maia catches up with Covington and tries the first takedown of the bout, but Covington denies the shot with a whizzer and the welterweights stay standing. Covington starts working the legs of Maia with low kicks, now two minutes into the bout. Maia has opened a cut on the outside corner of Covington's right eye, but the most potent offense through the midde of the round has been Covington's frequent low kicks. Maia feeds Covington another left hand and ducks under the wrestler's flailing counterpunches. Covington is chewing up the lead leg of Maia with kicks, but now Maia puts Covington on wobbly legs with a left hand to the temple. Covington sprawls on a late takedown attempt from Maia and holds the Brazilian in a headlock. Maia stands up just before time runs out and backs up to avoid Covington's final charge.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Maia
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Maia
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Maia

Round 2

Maia goes for an early takedown, but it's easily shut down by Covington with a sprawl. Covington traps Maia on the fence and feeds him a couple punches, sending Maia shooting for another single-leg. Covington sprawls all over this shot, too, this time leaving Maia on his back, waving for Covington to join him on the ground. Referee Jerin Valel orders Maia back to his feet, where the pace has slowed significantly from the opening round. Covington cracks Maia with an overhand left, then another, followed by an uppercut that sends Maia stumbling backward. Maia shoots another single, but again he can't get anything going against the wrestler. Yet another single-leg from Maia goes nowhere, and now Maia is starting to flop to guard on each attempt. Maia is slow to get up when ordered, his face bloody from the accumulation of punches from Covington in this round. Covington sits down on a left hand, presses forward on Maia and rocks the Brazilian's head back with a sharp jab before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Covington
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Covington
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Covington

Round 3

Covington presses forward on Maia in the opening minute, keeping his hands in the Brazilian's face as they circle the cage. Maia is looking tired and slow, still punching but without much power behind his strikes. An overhand left from Covington sends Maia shooting, and again "Chaos" shuts down the attempt entirely. Another takedown try from Maia leads nowhere, this time with Covington using underhooks to stand up the BJJ black belt. Maia is still trying to mount some offense, but Covington's volume is overwhelming at this late stage of the bout. Maia fails on another takedown, drops to guard and takes a moment to stand up when ordered. Covington sprawls on yet another shot, this time staying on the ground to hold Maia in a headlock. Maia is a bloody mess as Covington mashes away on his face with hammerfists. Referee Valel looks to be on the verge of stopping the bout when the final horn sounds.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Covington (29-28 Covington)
Brian Knapp scores the round 10-8 Covington (29-27 Covington)

Derek Brunson vs. Lyoto Machida

Round 1

Brazilian referee Osiris Maia is the third man in the cage for tonight's 185-pound main event, with judges Guilherme Bravo, Derek Cleary and Marcos Rosales scoring the bout. Machida stands in the center of the cage in his wide karate stance, hands held high as he waits for fellow southpaw Brunson to make a move. Brunson starts to chase after Machida and gets popped by a straight left from "The Dragon." Machida skitters out of range before Brunson can retaliate, and the middleweights' tense circling continues through the second minute. Machida steps into the pocket, misses with a punch and then gets clocked by a Brunson counter left that he never sees coming. Brunson adds another left hand as he shoves the dazed Machida to the floor. As soon as they hit the ground, Brunson smashes Machida's face with four thumping hammerfists, knocking the ex-champion out cold and sending referee Maia diving in to halt the bout. The Sao Paulo crowd sits in stunned silence as Machida lies motionless on the canvas, and Derek Brunson collects yet another first-round knockout.
