Sean Spencer vs. Yuri Villefort

Round 1

Villefort lunges at Spencer with a leaping knee which misses, and Spencer comes back to stick a jab in the Brazilian’s face. A couple hard low kicks land for Villefort while Spencer continues to paw with punching combinations. Spencer is finding the mark with his right hand, looking to counter Villefort’s low kicks with long punches. Villefort, meanwhile, is finding success with knees to the body in the pocket. Spencer comes over the top with a good right hand off a leg kick. Midway through the round, Villefort grabs for a single-leg which Spencer evades. They settle into a pattern with Spencer stepping in to throw a combination and Villefort waiting to strike back with a leg or body kick. Villefort gets Spencer to the ground briefly late in the round, but he can’t hold the American down.

Round 2

Villefort hits an early takedown in the middle of the cage, but Spencer quickly works over to the fence and then back to his feet. Spencer resumes his punching, jabbing with the left and loading up on big right hands, while Villefort continues to attack the legs. Spencer stuffs a double-leg, takes a body kick and steps in to sock Villefort with a right straight. Another right lands for Spencer, then a pair of chopping, outside leg kicks from the Brazilian. Spencer tries to retaliate with a leg kick inside which Villefort checks.

Villefort catches Spencer throwing and chops the lead leg out from under him, but Spencer pops back up. Spencer stuffs an awkward single-leg from Villefort and finishes the round with a pair of right hands, one to the head and one to the gut.

Round 3

Villefort is sticking to his leg-kicking attack as the final frame begins, still absorbing right hands from Spencer in between the strikes. Spencer’s right is repeatedly hitting Villefort’s temple as the smaller man moves in circles around Villefort. A double-leg against the cage doesn’t work for Villefort, and Spencer escapes the tie-up to pop Villefort with another combination. Villefort is on his back foot now, still throwing leg kicks and now trying with some straight punches. Spencer is doing well to slip the punches, and now he shuts down another single-leg shot with 90 seconds left in the fight. Down the stretch, Spencer is piling on the combinations, including a hard right straight-left hook inside the last 30 seconds. Villefort is bombing back with punches of his own, but Spencer is still landing cleaner and harder when time runs out.

Ivan Jorge vs. Keith Wisniewski

Round 1

Wisniewski sprawls on an early shot from Jorge and works off the fence to reset in the center. Jorge goes after another double-leg, but he quickly abandons this one and instead slaps at Wisniewski’s leg with a kick. As Jorge comes back to try another single, Wisniewski wraps him up in the clinch. Jorge steps out, comes back for another attempt and gets shoved off again. Wisniewski is grabbing for the Thai plum every time Jorge gets into range; after about 90 seconds, he finally scores with a solid knee to the Brazilian’s gut. Jorge ducks under a jab to grab Wisniewski’s leg, can’t get the takedown and pushes the American against the fence. Wisniewski escapes, stuffs two more takedown tries and punishes Jorge with another knee. Wisniewski counters a low kick with a hard right hook, then grabs Jorge’s head and throws a knee. Jorge tries to muscle the larger man against the fence, keeps working for a single-leg and still can’t finish the takedown. Wisniewski exits with a knee and puts a one-two on Jorge’s chin. Jorge comes over the top with a left hand and a leg kick, so Wisniewski pushes forward to answer with a right. Jorge uses double underhooks to put Wisniewski on the fence at the end of the round.

Round 2

Jorge finally completes a takedown against the fence after about 30 seconds of round two, but Wisniewski is quick to get back to his feet. Once standing, Jorge continues to cling to Wisniewski’s back as he grapevines the American’s right leg. The crowd lets out its first boos of the night as the welterweights stall out, and referee Mario Yamasaki tells the men to get busy. They don’t, and Yamasaki restarts them halfway through the bout. Wisniewski grabs the Thai clinch and drills Jorge with a knee up the middle.

Jorge tries another single, can’t get it and puts his hand on the canvas to avoid knees. Wisniewski instead punches him in the head as he continues to defend the takedown. With 90 seconds left, Jorge finishes the takedown, but Wisniewski is standing again 15 seconds later. The pace slows again as Jorge latches on to Wisniewski’s leg, still digging for a takedown until ref Yamasaki splits them up with 30 seconds on the clock. Wisniewski comes around Jorge’s guard with a good left hook, then puts him on the fence to close out the round with right hands to the body.

Round 3

Jorge connects with a body shot in the clinch, then takes a pair of punches and a kick from Wisniewski in return. Wisniewski puts the action on the fence long enough to step off with a straight right, then takes a leg kick in return. The welterweights continue clinching on the cage, Jorge on the outside now, working Wisniewski’s legs and body with some knees. Wisniewski takes a knee to the cup and gets a moment to recover before they resume clinching. Jorge puts a trio of hard knees in Wisniewski’s breadbasket and maintains the outside position as the fight enters its final 90 seconds. Ref Yamasaki warns Jorge of holding the fence shortly before breaking up the fighters for the third time. Back to the cage they go, where Jorge scores with another knee to the body and a pair of left hands as Wisniewski turns his head away. Jorge sticks his forearm across Wisniewski’s throat and holds him on the cage as time runs out.

Elias Silverio vs. Joao Zeferino

Round 1

The welterweights spent most of the opening two minutes on the fence, with Zeferino working on a takedown while Silverio defends with his back to the fence and punches at Zeferino’s ribs. Ref Leon Roberts breaks them up, and Silverio pushes in with front kicks, only to be grabbed by Zeferino and pressed against the cage again. Zeferino switches from a double- to a single-leg, then gives up on the shot when Silverio hits him with a couple elbows to the head. The ref splits them up again to give Zeferino time to recover from an accidental low blow. The action resumes a few seconds later, and Zeferino finally completes a takedown. Silverio is right back up, though, and he overpowers his opponent to put Zeferino on his back. Silverio stands back up and tells Zeferino to do the same. Silverio sticks a straight left before getting grazed by a head kick at the end of the round.

Round 2

Zeferino grabs hold of Silverio and works a body lock against the cage, while Silverio digs with short elbows to Zeferino’s head and body. Silverio goes underneath the armpit with a couple punches as Zeferino leans over and keeps trying on the shot. Ref Roberts breaks them up and Silverio takes advantage of the space, clubbing Zeferino with a right hand and pouncing on the ground to set up on top. Zeferino recovers quickly and traps the arms of Silverio to avoid any further punishment on the ground.

They stall out and Roberts stands them up again. Zeferino hits a trip takedown at the base of the fence with 1:40 left on the clock. Silverio works his way up but can’t escape Zeferino’s grasp, so he spends the last 30 seconds elbowing Zeferino, who drops to his knees just before the horn.

Round 3

Zeferino shoots in again, and this time Silverio is waiting with punches and kicks which send Zeferino to the mat. Silverio follows him down and socks away with a couple hammer fists before Zeferino pops him with an illegal upkick. Referee Roberts issues Zeferino with a warning and the welterweights get back to work with about 4:00 remaining in the bout. Silverio hits another trip takedown, gets wrapped up and stands to kick at the legs of his opponent. Zeferino stands and reverses the next takedown attempt to wind up on top of Silverio, who stands up and tries again, this time landing in Zeferino’s half-guard. Silverio passes to the side and Zeferino turtles up, trying to roll through but instead stalling out and allowing Silverio to land five or six right hands. Silverio stands and invites Zeferino back up; when Zeferino stands, Silverio has a pair of hard punches for him before tying up on the fence once more. Zeferino reverses the position and tries one last takedown, can’t get it and finishes the fight with Silverio sprawling on him.

Ramiro Hernandez vs. Lucas Martins

Round 1

Hernandez pushes forward on Martins and sticks a jab in the face of the taller man, clipping “Mineiro” with a punch as he nears the fence. Martins steps in and unloads with a flurry of hooks, stinging Hernandez, who slugs back with a good right hand. Martins’ punches are too much, and an overwhelmed Hernandez appears to go out on his feet before Martins whips around and latches on a standing rear-naked choke. The RNC is tight, and it only gets tighter as Martins pulls Hernandez to the ground and squeezes for the finish.

Hernandez punches desperately over his shoulder but eventually succumbs, and referee Herb Dean steps in to peel Martins off his unconscious foe after only 70 seconds.

Felipe Arantes vs. Edimilson Souza

Round 1

Arates takes the center of the cage with a high guard, while the rangy Souza stalks in circles around the outside, crouching in a low stance. Souza lunges in with long punches, straight shots to the body of Arantes and hooks to the head. Arantes is playing defense with his back to the fence, circling and trying to slip the punches. Souza sticks a long right hand, and Arantes opts to come off the cage, change levels and hit a double-leg takedown in the center. Souza is able to isolate the right arm of Arantes and avoid any ground-and-pound, but Arantes stands and dives back to the ground with a hard right hand. Arantes passes to half-guard and tries a keylock; he can’t get it, but Arantes is able to finish the round in full mount.

Round 2

The featherweights resume their pattern from the first half of round one, with Souza pushing forward, sniping at Arantes with long punches. Arantes comes in for another takedown attempt, putting Souza’s back on the fence with a double-leg which doesn’t lead anywhere. Souza comes forward again, winding up big right hands to Arantes’ head and body, but pulling up short about half of the time. Arantes tries to lure his countryman in with his hands by his side, and Souza obliges with a right hand.

Souza hits a body-head combo and keeps chasing Arantes around the outside. Souza misses with a spinning kick and a jab, but ends the round by putting a kick on Arantes’ body.

Round 3

Souza is back to jabbing to start the final round, keeping Arantes on the outside with long shots to the head and body. A big right hand stings Arantes, sending him backward toward the fence, and Souza tries to close in and capitalize. It proves ill-advised, as Arantes changes levels to put Souza on the ground. Souza uses the cage at his back to work up to his feet, though he’s held against the cage by Arantes once they get up. There’s not enough action in the clinch for ref Neil Hall, who breaks the featherweights up with 90 seconds left. Arantes takes 30 seconds to get inside and hit another takedown, putting Souza on his seat against the fence. Arantes drives a knee into Souza’s body, then a series of hard right hands, but time runs out and this is headed to the scorecards.

Ali Bagautinov vs. Marcos Vinicius Borges Pancini

Round 1

Vinicius works his way around the perimeter while Bagautinov stalks his way out from the center, both men appearing hesitant to engage in the early going. Bagautinov rushes in behind a flurry of punches and ties up with the Brazilian against the fence. Bagautinov tries a single-leg and then releases to deck Vinicius with a big left hand. Vinicius hits the floor and Bagautinov is all over him, trying to polish off his wounded opponent with punches. Bagautinov changes tactics and pulls guard with a guillotine, but Vinicius slips his head out as he moves to half-guard, then jumps on the back of Bagautinov in a scramble. Vinicius is riding high on the back, punishing Bagautinov’s body with left hands as he keeps his weight on the smaller man. After 40 seconds of maintaining the position, Vinicius threatens to peel off for an armbar. Bagautinov slips out the back door and stands, but Vinicius double-legs him back to the ground just before the round ends.

Round 2

The second round begins same as the first, with Bagautinov setting up in the center and Vinicius taking the outside. Bagautinov catches a kick and lands a right hand before hitting a double-leg takedown away from the cage. Vinicius uses butterfly guard to sweep Bagautinov over the top and stand, but the flyweights are only up for a few seconds before Bagautinov lands another takedown. Vinicius isolates Bagautinov’s left arm with rubber guard, releases and slams the side of the Russian’s
head with a horizontal elbow.

Bagautinov stands and Vinicius follows, and the pair resets with 90 seconds left in the round. Bagautinov hits Vinicius with a couple wide punches and one more takedown right before time expires.

Round 3

Not much action in the opening minute of the final round, with Vinicius once again moving to the outside and Bagautinov pressing outward. Bagautinov gets in on a single-leg against the fence, defended well by Vinicius until ref Mario Yamasaki decides to break them up. Bagautinov catches Vinicius stepping in and slugs the Brazilian with a massive straight right. Vinicius falls to the ground and tries to throw up his legs to fend off the assault, but Bagautinov drops punches from the standing position and Yamasaki steps in to call an end to the fight.

Rafael Natal vs. Tor Troeng

Round 1

Natal scores with a trio of kicks to the lead leg of Troeng, then catches the Swede with a right hand behind the ear. Troeng wilts to the ground and Natal gives chase, working to pass half guard while keeping pressure on Troeng’s head and shoulders. Natal commits to a headlock, allowing Troeng to roll him over and stand, then dive back down with a punch. Natal sweeps back to the top and again finds himself in Troeng’s half guard, this time framing up an arm-triangle. Troeng misses his first sweep attempt, almost hits the second, but Natal stays heavy on top and uses the opportunity to move to side control on Troeng’s left. Another sweep finds Troeng in Natal’s guard with one minute left, again landing a hard left hand as he stands and dives back down. Natal tries to scramble up and gives up his back, then rolls through to put Troeng back in his half guard. Troeng rides out the final 15 seconds on top.

Round 2

Natal rocks Troeng’s head with a huge right straight, and Troeng wobbles to the ground as the Brazilian rushes in to try and finish. Big elbows and punches land for Natal from half guard as Troeng attempts to wrap up and weather the storm. Troeng hits a sweep and tries to take Natal’s back as they stand, but Natal uses the fence to scrape him off and toss Troeng to the ground. Natal follows and passes to half guard on Troeng’s right as the pace slows midway through the bout.

Troeng is busy off his back with short punches; Natal passes to side control but can’t take advantage of the position before Troeng powers his way back to his feet. Troeng tries to pull guard with a kimura, loses it, stands up and takes a knee to the gut against the fence. Reversing the position, Troeng puts Natal’s back on the fence to hit a double-leg. Natal flips over the top and regains his footing, still held against the cage. Troeng is still working for a double-leg when the horn sounds.

Round 3

Troeng inches forward on Natal, keeping the Brazilian out of striking range with front kicks until Troeng decides to shoot a double-leg. The Swede leaves his neck exposed on the shot, and Natal jumps guard with a guillotine. The choke looks deep at first, but Troeng gives ref Leon Roberts a thumbs-up and then rolls on top to further loosen Natal’s grip. “Sapo” gives up on the guillotine and now finds himself on the bottom, with Troeng leaning left to right in half guard. Troeng stands to punch and gets swept underneath with less than two minutes left in the fight. Natal is looking for another guillotine, keeping Troeng’s head trapped underneath his left arm as he looks to take full mount. Troeng nearly hips out but gets stuffed back down, and Natal takes the opportunity to leap on his turtling opponent’s back and sink in both hooks. Troeng twists around to get out of the precarious position, but Natal finishes the fight on top with a pair of heavy elbows to Troeng’s head.

Piotr Hallmann vs. Francisco Trinaldo

Round 1

After 30 seconds of pawing, Hallmann sticks a right straight down the pipe on the face of the southpaw. Trinaldo responds with a hard hook to the body, then goes upstairs with a pair of lefts. Another left hand to the gut pushes Hallmann backward, but the Polish prospect charges back to parry punches against the fence. A liver kick stings Hallmann, who stumbles backward in defensive mode as “Massaranduba” tries to take his head off. Another body kick drops Hallmann to the ground, but he survives the Brazilian’s assault and struggles back to his feet. Trinaldo is still looking to finish, putting Hallmann on the fence and continuing his body work, but Hallmann seems to have recovered now. Hallmann lands a right straight, just misses with an uppercut, then digs a hook to Trinaldo’s body. Trinaldo is going for the homerun shot with his left hand, can’t land it clean so he goes back to damaging Hallmann’s body with kicks. A level-change against the cage yields a takedown for Trinaldo, who pops Hallmann with a couple hard lefts before the round ends.

Round 2

Trinaldo throws a left high kick which is caught by Hallmann and used to trip the Brazilian to the floor. Hallmann sits up and tries to keep Trinaldo down, but Trinaldo drives forward from deep half guard to get to his feet. A punch catches Hallmann off-balance and knocks the Pole to the ground, where Trinaldo dives on a leglock. Hallmann stands to escape danger of submission but remains held on the fence as Trinaldo looks for a double-leg.

Hallmann begins striking the leaning Trinaldo with elbows and gets a warning from ref Neil Hall to mind the back of Trinaldo’s head. Trying to peel Hallmann off the cage to finish the double, Trinaldo botches the takedown and winds up underneath Hallmann, eating more elbows. Ref Hall warns Hallmann again, this time for throwing “12-to-6” vertical elbow strikes. Hallmann abandons the elbows and instead frames up a kimura, leaning right to left across Trinaldo’s body to crank on the right arm. Hallmann passes from half guard to side control, then steps over Trinaldo’s head, each move tightening the kimura and eventually forcing Trinaldo to tap.

Joseph Benavidez vs. Jussier Formiga

Round 1

Benavidez taps “Formiga” with a front kick, then grazes the Brazilian with a leg kick. Da Silva sticks a right hand in the Team Alpha Male fighter’s face as they strike near the fence, then tries to clinch up and misses a knee to Benavidez’s body. A left hook from Formiga backs Benavidez out of striking range. Formiga looks to tie up again and is shoved away, but he clips Benavidez with another left shortly after. Benavidez swings a left over the top and tags Formiga before switching stances.

Back to southpaw goes Benavidez, whacking the Brazilian with another left and then dipping out of the pocket. Benavidez comes in and out of range twice more, each time grazing with hooks. After Formiga pushes him off with a spinning kick, Benavidez comes back and unloads with a hard left straight-right hook combo that puts Formiga on wobbly legs. Benavidez backs away, then steps in with a knee to the gut and a right hand which sends da Silva face-first to the canvas. Da Silva covers up while Benavidez bashes away with seven or eight right hands, and referee Mario Yamasaki moves in to rescue the downed fighter.

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Yushin Okami

Round 1

Souza strikes out from the center of the cage, putting a kick on the left side of Okami’s body before stepping in to clinch. Jacare exits the clinch with a short elbow, followed by a right hand over the top. Okami leans over and covers up against the cage as Souza bashes away with jackhammer left hands. Those don’t get Okami to go down, so Souza switches to throwing knees to the Japanese fighter’s body before backing out. The middleweights turn tentative now, with Okami flicking out jabs but not landing clean.

Midway through the round, Jacare steps in and crushes Okami with a huge overhand right near the fence. Okami seems barely conscious as he hits the ground and gets socked with another right hand. He tries to cling to Souza’s leg and avoid the ground-and-pound, but Souza sits up and unleashes thunderous punches to Okami’s head until referee Leon Roberts intervenes.

Glover Teixeira vs. Ryan Bader

Round 1

Bader shoots immediately, gets sprawled on and then slugs Teixeira with a wide left hand on the cheek. Now it’s Teixeira looking for a double-leg and nearly getting trapped in a guillotine as Bader pulls guard. Teixeira pops his head free and puts Bader’s back against the fence as the light heavyweight stand up. Another double-leg lands for Teixeira, but again Bader is quickly on his feet. The American reverses Teixeira on the fence and dodges a guillotine before backing out. Teixeira blocks a left high kick, then throws high with his right leg and gets deflected by Bader. A snappy jab from Bader hits Teixeira in the mush, and the big Brazilian goes down as Bader lands a looping left. Bader rushes in to finish, loses a guillotine as Teixeira stands, then steps back to light up Teixeira with an uppercut and two overhand rights. Teixeira is in a bad spot, but just as it appears he’s finished, he cracks Bader with a right hook-left hook combo and the American hits the ground. Teixeira pounds away with right hands from Bader’s guard, and with a dazed Bader turning over and barely covering up, referee Herb Dean has seen enough.
