UFC Singapore Bonuses: Demian Maia, Ben Askren Garner ‘Fight of the Night’ Honors

Demian Maia and Ben Askren delivered the type of fight that was expected from them , and both welterweights were financially rewarded as a result.

Maia and Askren received “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their headlining clash at UFC Fight Night 162 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore, on Saturday. While the bout started out on the feet, Askren eventually began to find success landing takedowns. However, Maia turned the tide in Round 3, using a heel hook attempt to sweep to top position after being taken down. From there, the Brazilian took Askren’s back, sunk in a rear-naked choke and rendered his foe unconscious at the 3:54 mark of the period.

Elsewhere, Beneil Dariush captured a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” paycheck for a quick victory over Frank Camacho in a featured lightweight scrap. After landing an early takedown, Dariush scrambled to his opponent’s back and secured a rear-naked choke, forcing Camacho to tap at the 2:02 mark of Round 1.

Finally, heavyweight prospect Ciryl Gane garnered the card’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus on the strength of the latest submission in UFC heavyweight history. After dominating Don’Tale Mayes for the majority of the bout, Gane locked in a heel hook 4:46 into the third round for his second Octagon triumph.
