Aleksandra Albu vs. Emily Whitmire

Round 1

Kicking off the card is a women’s strawweight bout between Aleksandra Albu and Emily Whitmire. The ref is Ryan Brueggeman. They come out into the center of the Octagon and exchange punches but Whitmire ducks under and lands a double leg takedown. Whitmire begins to work in half guard but Albu gets back into closed guard. Whitmire stands up and in a scramble jumps back down while Albu is trying to stand up and takes her back. Whitmire quickly puts the hooks in and then locks in the rear-naked choke around the neck of Albu. The choke is locked in very tight and Albu is forced to tap out.

Renan Barao vs. Luke Sanders

Round 1

Up next are the bantamweights Renan Barao and Luke Sanders. Technically it’s a catchweight bout as Barao weighed in at 138lbs. The referee for the fight is Al Guinee. Barao with a side kick to the body. Barao with a low kick. Sanders just missed a big overhand left. Sanders lands a body kick now. Sanders with a big straight left that lands on Barao’s chin. Barao lands a high kick that is partially blocked then lands a nasty body kick and a right straight. The two exchange low kicks and Sanders temporarily drops Barao. Now Barao lands another kick to the body. Sanders gets into the clinch and pushes Barao against the fence. Barao circles away. Sanders has a cut on his forehead. Sanders lands a body kick. He follows it up with a counter left straight. Barao with another low kick. Sanders gets Barao back into the clinch. Barao lands some knees from the clinch and Sanders breaks free. Sanders just misses a left high kick but lands a straight left behind it. Another low kick from Barao and a huge straight right clocks Sanders. A nasty body kick from Barao lands. He is eating up the body of Sanders. Sanders catches a kick but can’t get the takedown. 10 seconds left now. Barao lands another body kick but Sanders catches it and throws Barao down to the mat. But the round is over.

Round 2

Round two begins. The two circle. Barao lands another body kick. Sanders lands a straight left. He clips Barao with a right hook. Sanders tags Barao with a jab and then lands a massive straight left to the chin that drops Barao. He jumps down to the mat and finishes him with ground-and-pound for the biggest win of his career to date.

Scott Holtzman vs. Nik Lentz

Round 1

It’s now time for a lightweight matchup between Nik Lentz and Scott Holtzman. The referee in charge of the action is Jason Herzog. Lentz rushes in with a right hand and lands a knee before Holtzman moves away. Lentz just misses a right high kick, but lands a low kick anyways. Holtzman lands a right high kick and Lentz returns with a low kick. Straight left lands by Lentz. He lands a right hook. Right high kick lands by Lentz. Everything is landing right now. Holtzman just misses a big left hook. Lentz with a low kick and Holtzman returns fire with a straight right. Lentz gets the clinch and drops down for a double leg but Holtzman does a good job of stuffing it. He finally gets the double leg but Holtzman gets back up. Lentz still has Holtzman in the clinch and is landing knees to the thigh. Lentz gets a trip takedown from the clinch but Holtzman gets back up again. Lentz is still stuck to Holtzman like glue along the fence. Lentz gets another trip takedown but again Holtzman gets back up. Lentz drags Holtzman down to the mat with a body lock takedown. He’s now looking to take the back. He can’t get it but he clearly wins the round.

Round 2

Another body kick by Lentz but Holtzman counters with a low kick and briefly drops Lentz to the ground. Lentz is back up and lands another body kick and then a high kick. Holtzman with a body kick of his own. They exchange knees. Holtzman stings Lentz with a hard straight right. Lentz shoots for a double but Holtzman stuffs it. Lentz returns with a straight left but Holtzman lands a straight right. Another left straight by Lentz lands. Straight right by Holtzman lands right on the chin of Lentz. They exchange low kicks. Another straight right by Holtzman. Lentz lands a straight right of his own. Lentz rushes in and gets the clinch. He has Holtzman against the cage and is fishing for the takedown. He completes the trip takedown and now locks in a guillotine choke in transition. Holtzman is in trouble here. He manages to escape but Lentz is still glued to him in the clinch. Lentz completes the body lock takedown. Holtzman manages to sweep his way back to his feet but Lentz drops down for a double leg and completes it. The round is over.

Round 3

Round three starts and Holtzman needs a finish if he wants to get his hand raised. Holtzman just misses a big right uppercut. He lands a straight right and Lentz looks hurt. Lentz lands a counter right hook as Holtzman moves inside. Lentz lands a straight left. He follows it up with a right high kick. Holtzman with a big left hook. He follows it up with a clubbing right. Lentz rushes in and gets the clinch. He has Holtzman against the fence and drags him to the mat and briefly takes the back. Holtzman escapes and is now marching Lentz down. Lentz is tired but drops down for a desperation body lock takedown and gets it. Lentz is looking to take the back once again but Holtzman gets back to his feet. Lentz is still glued to him along the fence. Holtzman is landing some nice hard elbows and punches to the head of Lentz. He’s hurting him and the referee is taking a closer look. Lentz has a face of crimson now. There’s one minute left in the fight. Holtzman is marching hm down but Lentz is still moving. Holtzman with a huge straight right. He lands a flying knee but Lentz moves out of the way and gets back into the clinch. There’s not much time left in the fight now. Lentz with a late body lock takedown and the fight is over.

Lee with a low kick. Lee with a left hook, right low kick combination. Lee just misses an overhand right. Lee with another straight right. She follows it up with a low kick then moves away. A nice 1-2 combo by Lee lands. Hard low kick by Lee. Right hook by Lee lands. Evans-Smith is getting picked apart. Lee looks to land a hook kick but Evans-Smith grabs it and throws her to the mat. Now Evans-Smith is working. She lands a front kick to the body. Right straight by Evans-Smith and Lee returns with a right uppercut and a left hook. Lee pressures forward and lands a body kick that is partially blocked. Low kick by Lee. Evans-Smith just misses landing a right high kick. Lee with a left hook. Evans-Smith returns with a body kick. Lee with a left and right hook to the body of Evans-Smith. Double jab by Lee, and a double jab by Evans-Smith. Lee changes levels and shoots for a double leg takedown. Evans-Smith stuffs it but Lee starts to land some nice knees from the clinch and the round is over.

Round 2

Lee with a massive right hook to the body, a left hook to the head, and a right hook to the head. Evans-Smith changes levels and looks for a single-leg takedown. Lee stuffs it, circles away, and lands a huge body kick that hurts Evans-Smith. Another nice combination of low kicks and hooks by Lee. Now Lee with a nasty uppercut. She has Evans-Smith against the fence and is unloading the kitchen sink on her. Evans-Smith with a desperation double leg takedown and she lands it. She’s in side control now. Lee manages to get up and the fighters are back on their feet. Evans-Smith shoots for a single leg takedown but Lee sprawls. Evans-Smith lands a jab and Lee lands a left uppercut. Lee with a low kick. Right straight to the body by Lee. Low kick by Lee. Evans-Smith with a jab and she shots for a single leg that is stuffed by Lee. They clinch and exchange some knees and the round is over.

Round 3

The third round begins. The fighters exchange low kicks. Straight right by Lee lands and briefly staggers Evans-Smith. She shoots for a single leg but Lee defends nicely. Lee rushes in and lands another straight right. They continue to circle exchanging punches and kicks with Lee landing the better strikes. They are both starting to appear fatigued now. There’s nothing behind the punches and kicks either fighter is throwing. Lee lands a right straight to the body and uses it to get inside and lock up the clinch. She has Evans-Smith against the fence but Evans-Smith escapes. Evans-Smith looks for a desperation single leg takedown and completes it but the fight is over.

Benito Lopez vs. Manny Bermudez

Round 1

It’s a bantamweight clash between prospects Benito Lopez and Manny Bermudez. Technically it’s a catchweight bout at 140lbs after Bermudez missed weight. The referee is Keith Peterson. Low kick lands by Lopez. Straight right by Bermudez lands. Lopez just misses a straight right of his own. Bermudez gets inside and gets the clinch and drags Lopez to the ground with a body lock takedown. He’s now riding Lopez from behind and briefly gets the back but Lopez recovers and gets back into his guard. Bermudez lands some hard ground and pound from the top. Lopez explodes and gets back up to his feet. Bermudez is still pushing Lopez against the fence. Lopez reverses position and is now the one doing the pushing. In transition Bermudez uses a guillotine choke to get the fight to the ground and briefly gets into the crucifix position. He switches to a brabo choke in a scramble and Lopez is forced to tap out.

Jimmie Rivera vs. Aljamain Sterling

Round 1

It’s time for the preliminary main event between bantamweight contenders Aljamain Sterling and Jimmie Rivera. The referee is Ryan Brueggeman. Sterling immediately shoots for a double leg but Rivera stuffs it and they clinch. Sterling starts to work for the body lock takedown but Rivera defends it well and switches positions along the fence. Rivera lets go and they are back in the center of the Octagon. Sterling with a low kick. Rivera lands a right hook. Sterling shoots in for a single leg and once again Rivera stuffs it. Sterling switches to a body lock and nearly slams Rivera but Rivera is exhibiting exceptional takedown defense and balance here. Sterling is landing some nice knees and foot stops along the fence. The crowd is booing but Sterling is still working. For some reason the ref breaks the clinch. Very strange call by the ref there. Rivera lands a leg kick. Sterling just misses a left high kick. Rivera ducks under and now has Sterling in the clinch along the fence. Rivera is working for a body lock takedown but Sterling is defending it well. The round is over.

Round 2

Round two begins. Low kick by Sterling. He tries for a jumping knee but Rivera catches him and is now on top of Sterling on the mat. Sterling explodes and gets back to his feet. Sterling dives in for a double leg takedown and Rivera is now trying to defend against it along the cage. Sterling is now landing some hard knees to Rivera’s thighs. Rivera reverses the position and the fighters break from the clinch. Low kick by Sterling lands. Rivera really needs to get going here. Sterling lands a right high kick that is partially blocked. Sterling lands a spinning back fist. Now an overhand right by Sterling. He has Rivera against the fence and is unloading on him now. Straight left by Sterling land and a right hook. Rivera’s mouthpiece falls out and the ref warns him about a point being taken away if it happens again. Sterling shoots for a double leg takedown but Rivera sprawls and now has Sterling in a headlock. Sterling escapes and lands a low kick on the feet. Front kick to the body by Sterling. Another low kick by Sterling. The 10-second clapper hits and the round is over shortly afterwards.

In-between rounds Rivera’s corner tells him he needs a knockout and they are likely correct in their assessment. Rivera moves forward to start the round. He lands a right straight. Body kick by Rivera. He just misses a big overhand right. Low kick by Sterling and he just misses a spinning back fist on the break. Sterling shoots for a single leg takedown but Rivera stuffs it. Low kick by Sterling. Body kick by Sterling and a counter straight right by Rivera. Sterling looks to land a high kick but Rivera blocks it and sends Sterling to the mat. Rivera is on top of Sterling in side control now. Sterling grabs a single and uses it to get back up. Rivera with a left hook to the body. Low kick by Sterling. Jab from Sterling and a counter left hook by Rivera. Low kick by Rivera and Sterling follows it up with a jab. Low kick by Sterling. Sterling shoots in for a late single leg takedown but Rivera stuffs it and the fight is over.

Straight right lands by Luque, then a left hook. He has Barberena up against the fence and is stalking him. Right straight by Luque, and another. Barberena eats them but he’s hurt. Body kick by Luque and then a left hook. Now a right hook by Luque. Barberena returns with a left hook Luque with a jab and a left hook. Hard straight right by Luque and he just misses landing a left elbow. Barberena grabs Luque and now they are clinched. Luque escape and lands a straight right. Barberena lands a hard left hook and Luque falls to the mat. Barberena follows him to the mat but Luque scrambles and takes the back of Barberena. He has the rear-naked choke locked in tight now but Barberena somehow escapes. Luque switches to a brabo choke in transition. Barberena gets out of it and lands some nasty elbows and punches from the top to end the round.

Barberena is moving forward landing elbows. Straight right by Luque lands. Barberena with a clubbing right hand. He lands a beautiful 1-2 combination. Luque returns with a low kick. Hard left hook by Barberena and Luque returns with a straight right. Luque lands a kick to the body and then a low kick. Luque with a nice jab. Barberena with another straight left and then two hooks to the body. They continue to exchange punches. Luque lands a hard knee that drops Barberena. He continues to punch him and the round is over.

Round 3

The third round begins and the two fighters give each other a hug. It’s been a great fight so far. The two are back in the center of the Octagon exchanging punches and kicks. Barberena lands a hard straight left which he uses to get into the clinch. A beautiful 1-2 lands by Barberena. Barberena is peppering Luque with punches in the phone booth. Luque is hanging in tough but Barberena is landing a high volume of strikes right now. Big left hook by Barberena. Straight left by Barberena. Luque just misses a high kick but follows it up with a low kick. Luque fires a straight right hand. Barberena catches him with a jab coming in and Luque briefly slips but gets back up. Luque with a hard straight right and Barberena just misses a front kick. Barberena and Luque are now standing in the center of the Octagon throwing everything they have left in them at each other. There’s barely any time left in the fight and Luque lands two brutal knees that drop Barberena. He’s badly hurt and Luque follows it up with punches on the ground and the fight is over. Incredible fight between two warriors.

Alex Caceres vs. Kron Gracie

Round 1

Up next is a featherweight bout between Alex Caceres and Kron Gracie. The official in the cage is Keith Peterson. Low kick by Caceres. Gracie with a right hook. He lands a nice counter straight left on Caceres, who fires back with a side kick. Gracie ducks under the jab of Caceres and has him in the clinch along the fence. Gracie takes the back of Caceres and drags him to the mat. He has the hooks in and is now fishing for the rear-naked choke. Gracie has the rear-naked choke locked in and this fight is over. Exceptional display of Brazilian jiu-jitsu by the newest Gracie in the UFC.

Cynthia Calvillo vs. Cortney Casey-Sanchez

Round 1

It’s time for the women’s strawweights as Cynthia Calvillo takes on Cortney Casey. The referee is Jason Herzog. Low kick lands by Calvillo. She shoots in for a takedown but fakes it and lands a knee to the face of Casey on the break. Casey with a low kick and Calvillo returns with a straight right. Both ladies haven’t landed much as each is doing a good job of backing away when the other throws a strike. Low kick by Calvillo. Casey lands an uppercut and backs away. Another low kick by Calvillo and she lands a left hook. They exchange hooks but again, not much is landing. Casey goes to throw a front kick but Calvillo catches it and tosses her to the ground. Casey gets back to her feet. Calvillo with a jab to the body. Casey misses a right high kick. Calvillo lands a shovel hook in an exchange. Low kick by Calvillo. Overhand right by Calvillo. Low kick by Calvillo. She’s really come on strong to finish the first round.

Casey tries to land a low kick but Calvillo catches it and is looking to take the back of Casey. But Casey breaks free and they are both back in the center of the Octagon. Once again Casey lands a kick that Calvillo catches. Calvillo continues to circle while Casey misses. Low kick by Calvillo. Neither fighter is landing all that much. Another low kick by Casey and Calvillo returns with a straight right. Casey lands a right hook. The round is over.

Calvillo returns with an overhand right. The 10-second clapper hits and they stand in the center swinging bombs until the final bell rings. Uneventful fight up until the last couple seconds.

Round 2

Round two begins. They exchange kicks and Vick grabs Felder’s neck as they come in close. He uses it to get the clinch and pushes Felder against the cage. There’s a bit of a stalemate here and the crowd is booing. The fighters break. Vick with a straight right and Felder returns with a low kick. Another low kick by Felder. Now Felder moves in and lands an overhand right, then lands another low kick. Vick with a straight right of his own. Felder just misses a spinning elbow and Vick uses it as an opportunity to get the clinch. He has Felder against the fence now. Felder breaks away. Low kick by Vick lands. Felder just misses an overhand right. Another hard low kick by Felder. Vick looks to be hurt. Felder lands a left hook and then another low kick. The 10-second clapper goes off and the round is soon over.

Round 3

Third and final round now and both men touch gloves. Another low kick by Felder. He’s been landing them all night long. Spinning back kick to the body by Felder lands. They exchange low kicks. Vick lands an uppercut but Felder ducks under and gets the clinch. Felder lands a big elbow and breaks away. Felder lands a brutal low kick and Vick can’t walk properly. Felder with a counter left hook and another low kick soon after. Vick moves in and lands a straight right. Felder lands another hard low kick then connects with a counter left hook and briefly staggers Vick. Now Vick lands a big straight right and uses it to move inside and get the clinch. They break apart and there’s one minute left in the fight. Felder lands a spinning back elbow and again gets the clinch on Vick. They break and Felder just misses an overhand right. Vick with a kick to the body. Felder gets the clinch, Vick breaks, and the final bell soon rings.

Cain Velasquez vs. Francis Ngannou

Round 1

It’s finally time for the main event, a five-round heavyweight bout between Cain Velasquez and Francis Ngannou. The referee is Jason Herzog. Velasquez with a body kick to start things off. Ngannou lands a 1-2 and Velasquez ducks down for a double leg takedown. All of a sudden Velasquez is down on the mat and Ngannou is raining down punches on him and the referee jumps in and stops the fight. The finish came fast. Replays show that Ngannou did land some short punches while Velasquez went for the takedown, but it is clear from the replays that Velasquez hurt his left knee which led to the stoppage. Either way, a great victory for Ngannou's resume.
