Round 1

We begin this shorter than usual night of fights with a welterweight bout between two UFC newcomers, as “The Beast” Aguilera (13-6, 0-0 UFC) squares off against “Aquaman” Ivy (8-2, 0-0 UFC). Referee Dan Miragliotta is on top of the action with this card opener, and a touch of hands between these two Octagon neophytes checks in the evening. Aguilera starts off with a few jabs from a distance to find his range, and Ivy replies with a loud, slapping leg kick. Ivy ducks down and gets countered with a straight right, but still manages to land another solid leg kick. Ivy’s nose may already be starting to get marked up, but his leg kicks keep connecting. A heavy right hand to the temple from Aguilera clips Ivy, and “The Beast” smells blood and goes on a rampage. Aguilera chains several thudding punches together, and a hacking hammerfist at the end of a combination wobbles Ivy's legs. As Aguilera pours it on, Miragliotta has to step in and stop the contest, and Ivy is so hurt that he tries to shoot in for a double leg takedown on Miragliotta. The takedown defense for “Big Tan” holds up, and this was an impressive performance in less than a minute for the debuting fighter from California.

Tyson Nam (135.5) vs. Zarrukh Adashev (138.5: Missed Weight)

Round 1

Moving almost down to the bantamweight division, Nam (18-11-1, 0-2 UFC) will try for the third time to win his first fight in the UFC against the younger ex-kickboxer Adashev (3-1, 0-0 UFC). This being a 139-pound catchweight contest as Adashev missed weight, referee Herb Dean will make sure there are no hostilities between the two after this fight ends. They do touch gloves, which shows Nam did not take Adashev’s weight miss personal. Nam sticks out a jab a few times, and Adashev rushes in with a series of heavy punches that Nam blocks in time. Adashev kicks low with his hands down, and Nam’s eyes nearly light up as he returns fire with a picture-perfect counter right that puts Adashev down hard. “The Lion” has been tamed, and he is in a daze as Dean tries to dive in but Nam gets one more right hand in to seal the deal. This is a hugely important win for Nam, who gets his first victory inside the Octagon by flattening Adashev in about 30 seconds.

Julia Avila (135) vs. Gina Mazany (136)

Round 1

Up next in the women’s bantamweight division, Avila (7-1, 1-0 UFC) will try to make it four in a row when she welcomes back “Danger” Mazany (6-3, 1-3 UFC) to the UFC. Drawing the assignment is referee Chris Tognoni, and they touch gloves to begin the match. Mazany comes out firing with a couple long punches, and catches Avila at the end of a left hand. Avila comes back at her with a vengeance, and lands a solid right hand and a knee to the body that starts off a chain of events putting “Danger” firmly in the Danger Zone. Mazany doubles over in pain and covers up as “Raging Panda” unleashes a rage and a fury towards her, swarming Mazany with punches that knock her across the cage and into the fence. Avila does not relent, landing punch after vicious punch until Mazany’s knees start to buckle, and Tognoni has seen enough. That’s three sub-minute finishes in a row, ladies and gentlemen.

Gustavo Lopez (140) vs. Merab Dvalishvili (139)

Round 1

In an unexpected but still officially scheduled catchweight, Dvalishvili (10-4, 3-2 UFC) faces off against extremely short-notice replacement and former Combate Americas champ Lopez (11-4, 0-0 UFC) at 140 pounds. Serving as the referee will be Mark Smith, and there is a glove touch as Lopez smiles at him and takes the center of the cage. Lopez lands a leg kick, and just avoids a spinning strike from Dvalishvili. The Georgian replies with a low kick of his own, and catches a returning kick to grab the leg and drag Lopez down. Lopez springs back to his feet, but Dvalishvili still has his grasp on him as we pass the first minute of the fight for the first time tonight. Lopez breaks free and keeps grinning as he takes an inside calf kick. Dvalishvili wings a spinning back fist again, and Lopez barely blocks it in time. “The Machine” goes wide with a big overhand right, and Lopez comes back with the same strike. A double jab from Lopez is followed by a huge right hook, and Dvalishvili evades the follow-up strike and tries to circle around to land a bomb of his own. Lopez tags him with a couple punches, so Dvalishvili elects to take the fight down. Lopez climbs his way back up using the fence, and Smith warns Lopez very sternly not to do so again. Dvalishvili takes his back, but Lopez walks up the cage wall. Dvalishvili comes around the other side, scoops up Lopez and slams him down. Dvalishvili sits up on top of Lopez’ legs and starts raining down punches, but Lopez kicks him away to get back up. “The Machine” is relentless, and hits a double leg takedown while the newcomer tries to defend with a guillotine choke off his back. The choke forces Dvalishvili to be cautious, but he avoids the attempt and stays on top to land a few punches. A couple more long punches to the body and heavy right hand that makes Lopez’ head bounce off the canvas punctuates the round emphatically for Dvalishvili.

Round 2

The two men start out cautious to start the second frame, as Dvalishvili circles around on the outside while faking and feinting. Dvalishvili sits down on a heavy right hand, and he hurts Lopez but Lopez keeps a decent poker face so the Georgian does not capitalize on the damage he caused there. As Dvalishvili starts to put punches together, Lopez’ smile has faded completely, and he throws a heavy right hand that he follows perfectly into a takedown. While in half guard, Dvalishvili is content to land some surprisingly powerful punches that get Lopez’ attention. Dvalishvili has begun to employ a grinding attack, slowly and methodically stepping into side control as he lands punch after punch. Dvalishvili sits down and wraps his right arm around his opponent’s neck, holding it like a schoolyard bully’s neck crank. Dvalishvili keeps his full weight on his opponent while wrenching the neck, and grabs Lopez’ arm between his legs. Dvalishvili lets out a bellow of joy as he feels he has the fight locked up, but Lopez manages to power out and stand up. This victory is short-lived, as Dvalishvili hits another takedown quickly. Lopez gets put on his back, but threatening with a guillotine choke allows him to stand up. As he returns back to his feet once more, Dvalishvili is on him like a dog with a bone as he recklessly pursues takedown after takedown, all while Lopez trying to sling looping power punches. Once more, Lopez protects himself by fishing for a guillotine choke, but Dvalishvili ignores it and eventually drags Lopez down as we hear the horn sound.

Round 3

The grin is back on Lopez’ face as the round begins, and we find the former Combate Americas champ trying to stalk Dvalishvili around the cage. Dvalishvili keeps him at bay with a series of calf kicks that make Lopez pick up his leg more and more every time he takes one. Dvalishvili sells out for a level change and gets countered, so he backs off before going after a takedown. Taking a moment to reset, Dvalishvili comes right back towards him, sweeping out the lead leg almost like an ankle pick, allowing him to get on top like many times before. Lopez grabs hold of an arm and searches for a kimura off his back, and while Dvalishvili tries to protect against it, Lopez stands back up. It does not take more than a few seconds for Dvalishvili to take the fight back down, and he slices over quickly into mount. Lopez turns over to get out of position, gives up his back, and miraculously stands back up while breaking free of the bad position. Without fail, Dvalishvili staves off a guillotine choke and drags Lopez down again. While in full guard, Dvalishvili hangs on top forcing Smith to call for action. Lopez scrambles to get out, but in doing so allows Dvalishvili to advance to half guard briefly. Light punches continue to sprinkle down from Dvalishvili, and Lopez is irritated so he tries to power out. This time, Lopez gives up his back, and Dvalishvili sets up a body lock. Somehow, Lopez is able to push off and get back up, and that may be a baker’s dozen for Dvalishvili as he puts the fight back to the ground. With seconds left on the block, Lopez flails with upkicks while Dvalishvili tries to pound down with windmilling right hands. The horn sounds, and Dvalishvili hops on top of the cage to celebrate, but Smith yells at him to get down.

Kicking off the main card -- this entire event is on ESPN and simulcast on ESPN+ -- is a women’s flyweight matchup between the debuting Kazakh Agapova (8-1, 0-0 UFC) and former strawweight Cifers (10-5, 2-3 UFC). Our Octagon ranger for this main card opener is referee Dan Miragliotta, who may weigh as much as both fighters combined. The two start out firing, and Agapova works punches while Cifers tries to come at her with kicks. The heavy punches for the Kazakh fighter have gotten Cifers’ attention early, and the latter tries to clinch up to slow down the offense. Agapova shoves here away, and thwarts another attempt from Cifers to tie up while she lands long right hands. Cifers times her with a big right hand, and Agapova comes back firing. This has turned into a brawl, as Agapova gets a little sloppy but is chaining punches together fast. Cifers is unable to get a takedown, and eats a body kick before Agapova crashes in to land a hard knee to the liver. Cifers grimaces as she tries to fight her way back off the clinch, but muscles her around. Agapova has had enough of the clinch work, and backs off to land some powerful punches. Cifers drops her guard for a moment, and Agapova blasts her square on the chin with a left high kick. Cifers is in trouble, and falls against the cage. “Shockwave” tries to grab hold of her to stop the offense, so Agapova uses the moment to spin her around and take her back. The Kazakh fighter hops on to her opponent’s back like a backpack, and as soon as she secures a body triangle, she also has a rear-naked choke practically locked up. It is over the chin and tight as can be, and the two fall to the ground. Cifers taps out moments later, with no way out and no interest in her jaw breaking. Even though Agapova prevailed against a short-notice replacement, this is a performance that undoubtedly will put the American Top Team prospect on the map.

Jordan Espinosa (135.5) vs. Mark De La Rosa (136)

Round 1

Drifting over to the bantamweight division, two frequent fliers at flyweight go head-to-head and try to break losing streaks as Espinosa (14-7, 1 NC; 1-2 UFC) takes on De La Rosa (11-4, 2-4 UFC). The third man inside the cage is referee Herb Dean, and a respectful touch of gloves clocks this fight in. De La Rosa opens up with a leg kick, and chases after his opponent with punches. Espinosa is dancing around the outside while sticking out his jab, and he takes two more leg kicks in the process. De La Rosa shoots in low for a takedown, and he slides off the lead leg of Espinosa, who gets out of the way and keeps his jab flowing. Espinosa starts throwing leg kicks back at him, but De La Rosa checks one with a loud impact noise. Espinosa lands a heavy right hand, and De La Rosa fires right back at him with one of his own. They trade low leg kicks, and Espinosa has his left hand down nearly by his waist. Espinosa jumps forward to land a stomp kick to the knee, backs away and unloads a fierce body kick that clatters off De La Rosa’s midsection. Espinosa slips up a high kick, and De La Rosa eats it and walks forward with straight lefts and rights. Espinosa clinches up, and as De La Rosa tries to bully him against the fence, Espinosa cracks him with a knee. De La Rosa ties him up against the fence and even gets off what some commentators would call “old school” -- a few foot stomps. Espinosa keeps his knee high to protect against more knee strikes and thwart any takedowns, and changes to fire a knee up the middle and may have landed low. Espinosa lifts that knee up again, and De La Rosa drops down for a single while Espinosa works his body with popping hammerfists. Those punches are all seeming to land on the same spot of De La Rosa’s lower rib cage near his kidney, and that area has started to redden up quickly. When De La Rosa ducks his head down, Espinosa rips the side of the head with some very powerful elbows. De La Rosa stays devoted to the takedown attempt, so Espinosa tees off on him with elbows that hurt his adversary. A few more elbows get off until the horn sounds.

Round 2

De La Rosa walks forward to begin the round with several jabs, and Espinosa flicks his own jab out there in response. Espinosa stays loose and keeps his lead hand low, while he keeps sticking his opponent with the jab. While he lands a body kick and another stomp to the knee, the jabs are the most effective strikes in the round so far. Espinosa rips to the body with another kick, and De La Rosa reels but gets through it as he presses forward. “Bumblebee” stings him to the body with a few punches, backing Espinosa against the fence and in the same position they ended the round. Similarly, Espinosa returns to his short elbow strikes but peppers in some heavy knees to the body that make De La Rosa back off. They keep trading jabs, and Espinosa has caused some damage to form around De La Rosa’s left eye. Espinosa keeps potshotting him with jabs to the head and body, and De La Rosa gets tired of eating them and wades through to unload a few wild punches. Espinosa returns fire, and a right hook makes De La Rosa stumble backwards for the briefest of moments. Espinosa stays on his bike, all while jabbing and landing effective kicks as De La Rosa simply walks forward. A left straight and a right land hard from De La Rosa, who eats them like a sandwich and stalks Espinosa down. As De La Rosa tries to kick him to the body, a check left hook from Espinosa scores enough to halt that offense. Espinosa ends the round with a few leg kicks, although De La Rosa may have checked one or two along the way.

Round 3

The two men start off firing, and after a few quick jabs from Espinosa, it is the fighter from Ohio who pushes the fight to the fence. De La Rosa breaks free, but eats a few thudding punches while Espinosa smiles at him. The Factory X fighter comes forward seemingly chin-first, and Espinosa catches him on the way in before hitting a takedown. Espinosa practically ignores a submission attempt or two while raining down ground-and-pound. The punches continue to mount, so De La Rosa turns around to his stomach. Espinosa snatches up the neck to hunt for a brabo choke, and De La Rosa tries to walk out of it. As “Bumblebee” pulls his neck free, he gets tagged a few times while trying to stand up. Espinosa backs away to get back to work with his jab, and a few punches have bloodied the nose of De La Rosa. When De La Rosa walks forward to throw bombs, Espinosa hits another quick takedown. A few punches on top lead to De La Rosa again scrambling back to his knees to stand up, so Espinosa times a perfect and audible knee to the body before he gets there. De La Rosa returns to his feet and is ready for a brawl, so Espinosa obliges him. The left jabs from Espinosa continue to flow, and he mixes in a blistering body kick that draws a reaction out of his adversary. While De La Rosa continues to pressure, Espinosa shoots in low for a takedown, and De La Rosa stuffs it and stands him up. With less than 30 seconds left, De La Rosa telegraphs a few bombs that Espinosa avoids without much issue, until Espinosa hunts for another takedown attempt. De La Rosa stops it and pushes Espinosa against the fence, where the fight ends.

Round 1

In what could be a surprising turn of events, the most experienced UFC fighter on this card is Team Alpha Male’s Fili (20-7, 8-6 UFC), who will take on high-flying Canadian Jourdain (10-2, 1-1 UFC) in a featherweight scrap. Referee Chris Tognoni is in charge of the cage, and before the action begins, Fili removes the tape covering his large ear piercing holes. They replace the tape right before the opening bell, and the two fighters touch gloves before letting it rip. Fili starts the fight aggressively by marching forward, but Jourdain is the first one to fire as he throws a kick to the upper body. Fili responds with a hard right hand, and the two trade heavy leather and hurt one another. Jourdain fires a body kick that lands squarely, and not to be outdone, Fili zings back a high kick that is barely blocked. Jourdain swings for the bleachers with some punches, and Fili is able to evade them and respond with a hard head kick. After a couple punches land from Jourdain, both men nail each other with head kicks. These two are going strike-for-strike so far, and neither want to take much of a back step. Jourdain lets fly a high kick, and Fili ducks back and taunts him. A powerful body kick from Fili scores, and it lands with a resounding thud. Fili takes a spinning back kick that glances off his midsection, and Jourdain resets with two high kicks that both get blocked. Fili whips up a high kick and Jourdain blocks it and laughs at him. Jourdain kicks high again and it is blocked, but those kicks may be having an impact on Fili’s right arm. Fili changes stances and gets clipped with a huge left hand that puts him down on the canvas. Jourdain jumps on top to try to secure a finish, but Fili fights him off and blocks a head kick when he stands back up. Fili gathers his thoughts and slings a head kick at his opponent, and these two are kicking with everything they have. A front kick from the body lands emphatically from Jourdain, who celebrates his work for a moment. Fili recovers and strings together a few punches with a head kick, and quickly hits a takedown. A couple punches from Fili land on top, and when Jourdain stands back up, we hear the horn. The two kickpunchers keep jawing at one another until Tognoni separates them.

Round 2

The second round begins appropriately with head kick attempts from both men. Jourdain tries to stick out that front kick he was successful with towards the end of last round, but Fili counters him with a straight left that backs him off. As he tries to set up another kick, Fili counters him ahead of him. Sensing he might have given up a tell, Jourdan switches to a series of low kicks, and Fili follows suit by blasting him right back. Fili is walking Jourdain down now, and two blocked head kicks from Fili are followed by a few low kicks. Jourdain fires right back at him with some low kicks, and long left hands along with a spinning back fist that Fili eats without issue. “Touchy” continues to touch him with long punches, while Jourdain is targeting the lead leg repeatedly with impactful kicks. Jourdain whips a high kick that Fili is able to block in time, but he does not return fire immediately. Instead, he gathers his thoughts and starts to work a few reaching one-two combinations that are ringing the Canadian’s bell repeatedly. Both men kick at the same time, and Fili sits down on a right hand as well as a high kick that Jourdain is barely able to defend against. Jourdain swings and misses with a right hook, and Fili catches him as Jourdain is trying to reset. Jourdain ducks his head down to throw heavy leather, and in doing so ducks the counters whizzing by his head. When Jourdain aims for the lead leg again, Fili uses the opportunity to take the fight down. The top position for Fili does not last long, as Jourdain gets back up and the two stand and trade until the horn sounds.

Round 3

The two clap hands to begin the final frame, and Jourdain starts off with a couple head kick attempts. Fili blocks him, and racks him with one of his own. The Canadian’s chin stays intact as he comes back low with kicks, allowing Fili to land a couple straight punches over the top. Fili ducks out of the way when a spinning back fist flies towards him, and he comes back to march Jourdain down and land a few punches. Fili scores with a head kick that, even though it was blocked, forces Jourdain to bounce off the cage wall. Fili targest the body with a few punches, and “Air Jourdain” wings some looping hooks before jumping in the air with a knee. Fili is well-prepared for it, and blocks it while quickly transitioning into a takedown. Fili gets him down, and steps over to half guard and side control before Jourdain rolls over to get out of the bad position. Fili keeps tight of him and tries to get his back, but abandons it to land a body kick when Jourdain stands to his feet. Fili follows a solid jab with a right hand, and eats one that sets him off-balance. Fili lands a left, and Jourdain connects with a right of equal effect. Fili times a leg kick coming his way with a counter left, and walks forward to fire up a head kick. Jourdain blocks it and flicks out a jab, before smacking him in the chops with a right hand that pops Fili’s head back. These two continue to trade violently, with each man having success from nasty power strikes. Fili tries to time an overhand right from his opponent with a takedown, and the Canadian stuffs it and gains separation. Jourdain wings a big right hook, and Fili tries again and hits the takedown he seeks. Jourdain scrambles and rolls, all while Fili hammers down punches from on top. This exciting and close fight ends with Fili on top swinging down punches while Jourdain is on his knees.

This fight at lightweight is between two men who prefer to handle their business at featherweight. Rosa (12-4, 3-4 UFC) will square off against the excellently nicknamed “The Angel of Death” Aguilar (17-3, 2-2 UFC) in what could be an exciting battle overseen by referee Mark Smith. The two do not elect to touch gloves, and Rosa tries to strike first but gets countered and shoved down by Aguilar. This similar exchange -- Rosa kicking to the body and getting bowled over -- happens again right after Rosa gets up. Rosa throws a few calf kicks, which draw out a reaction as Aguilar chases after him with a big right hook that falls short of the mark. Aguilar blitzes in with a few punches that get deflected, allowing Rosa to aim for that calf again. When the Texan crashes in again, he lands a left hand and checks a returning leg kick. Rosa hops forward with a left, and as it grazes the chin, Aguilar bites down on his mouthpiece and races forward with looping hooks. Although none connect flush, they do make Rosa rebound off the fence. Rosa aims at that lead calf a few more times, and Aguilar counters it with an overhand left. Aguilar blocks a spinning back kick to the body, and parries a couple body kicks. Aguilar checks another calf kick, and lets fly one of his own that slightly lands. Aguilar loads up on a right hand, and Rosa is able to roll with most of it but gets caught. Rosa keeps his sights set on the low kick, and when Aguilar counters, he opens up a cut around Rosa’s right eye. Rosa rushes in with a left hand, and ducks down to grab a single leg takedown. Aguilar responds in kind with a clubbing hammerfist that forces Rosa to abandon the position, and they separate. Aguilar slips in a quick right hand, and blocks a head kick as the round comes to a close.

Round 2

Rosa commences the round with a side kick, and Aguilar backs off to block a hard body kick. Aguilar comes back at him with his own body kick, and Rosa blasts the lead calf on both sides. Those kicks irritate Aguilar into bullrushing his opponent to land a few punches, and tags Rosa with a right. A failed superman punch from Aguilar is followed by a right hand, and Rosa fakes a low kick and slams in a left hand. Aguilar digs to the body with a nosy kick, and as Rosa is retreating, he tries to land another but is not able to reach his intended mark. Both fighters are largely throwing one strike at a time, and Rosa scores with a stiff body kick as Aguilar returns fire with an overhand right. They close the distance, and Aguilar wings a right hook that brushes past the hair of his adversary, allowing Rosa to retreat in time. Aguilar chases after him and land another hard body kick, and on a jab, Rosa nearly kicks out his lead leg. Double jabs from Aguilar fall short, and as Aguilar ducks down to consider a takedown, Rosa boots him in the head that bloodies up his nose. Aguilar walks through it and tries to drill him with a left hook, and whiffs on a body kick as well. When Aguilar closes in to land punches, he ducks down and once again, Rosa cracks him with a head kick. Aguilar is hurt and is on wobbly legs, but he swings with everything he has and tags Rosa, and a cut opens up during a wild exchange. Round 3

Between rounds, the cut on Rosa’s forehead continues to bleed down into his eye. The two men start the final frame out trading leather, swinging recklessly and ignoring most of their defense. Aguilar jabs his way in, and Rosa sticks him with two lefts in the process. Aguilar is not concerned by the counters, and as he eats a leg kick he fires back a right hook. Rosa hunts for the lower leg a few more times, and in the process, Aguilar circles around and takes Rosa’s back. “Boston Strong” rolls for a leglock, and Aguilar backs off with no interest in playing the ground game. They continue to swing on one another, and they are both busted up and bleeding. Rosa throws up a quick hook kick, and a body kick with the other leg while Aguilar tries to make him pay for it. A couple more kicks from Rosa lead to him getting punched in the gut, and he wears it well as he kicks Aguilar to the midsection. They come together and land simultaneous jabs, and Aguilar loads up on a right hand but is feet away from the mark. Rosa sticks and moves, and evades another big right hand. Rosa hops forward to score a left hand, and “The Angel of Death” shoots in for a double leg takedown. Rosa shrugs it off, and Aguilar tries and fails to connect on the break with a big right hand. Aguilar goes for a low single, and Rosa shucks it off and blasts him on the face with a right hand. Aguilar starts swinging wildly, but Rosa is largely out of the way from these concussive strikes as he jabs from a distance. The round ends, and the two men embrace. If the last bout is any indication, this could be a close one.

Round 1

Our co-main event is the heaviest fight on the card -- 190.5 pounds to be precise -- as Roberson (9-2, 4-2 UFC) missed weight against the stark raving mad Vettori (14-4-1, 4-2-1 UFC). They were set to fight a month prior, and Roberson was hospitalized due to his weight cut, so calls for a move up to light heavyweight are sure to come for “Baby K.” Keeping tabs on this grudge match will be referee Dan Miragliotta, and unsurprisingly the two do not touch gloves and start swinging for the fences at the opening bell. The opening seconds are tense, as neither man wants to commit to anything of important or leave themselves wide open. Vettori lands a left hand to begin, and Roberson replies with a one-two that gets blocked. Vettori sticks him with a hard left, and rushes in while ducking the attack coming over the top from Roberson. Roberson whiffs a head kick after they separate, and Vettori likewise misses a right hand. Roberson attempts a hook kick but misses it as well, but manages to circle around and get the back of his opponent, where he pulls the Italian down. Roberson fishes for a choke attempt, but Vettori is able to scramble out of danger and reverse the position, where he ends up on top. Vettori is on top in half guard, while he puts his weight on the heavier fighter. Roberson sits up against the fence, allowing Vettori to set up a guillotine choke. Vettori wrenches with everything he has, and Roberson bucks him off and nearly gets out of the position. Roberson falls back into a choke, and lifts Vettori off the ground to set him down. Both men scramble wildly, and Vettori winds up on top again. Postured up on half guard, Vettori starts to rain down quick and short punches and elbows. Roberson blocks most of them, but earns a warning from Miragliotta to improve his position. When Roberson rolls to his stomach to keep defending from the onslaught, Vettori latches on to his back and sinks in a slick rear-naked choke. The arm is beneath the chin, and Roberson is done. When Roberson taps out, "The Italian Dream" has his dream come true, and he unleashes all of his remaining rage in a guttural scream.

Jessica Eye (126.25: Missed Weight) vs. Cynthia Calvillo (126)

Round 1

We have reached our headliner, which will also be a catchweight contest given that Eye (15-7, 1 NC; 5-6, 1 NC UFC) clocked in .25 pounds over the flyweight limit before facing strawweight ex-pat Calvillo (8-1-1, 5-1-1 UFC). Will Eye have a noticeable size advantage having missed weight, or will her performance suffer? Like referee Herb Dean, we will find out very shortly. They touch gloves, and both paw out a few jabs to find their range early on. Eye lands a left, and Calvillo cannot reach her back. Eye walks her down, and takes a short uppercut on the way in from her opponent. The two women trade single punches, and their follow-ups fall short. Eye beats her to the punch with a left hand, so Calvillo mark the body in response. They start trading punches, but neither are sitting down on their strikes as of yet. Calvillo goes low with a kick, and lands a one-two that Eye absorbs and responds to in kind. A high kick from Calvillo connects, and Eye tries to counter but cannot score with a right hand. Calvillo strings together a short combination, and as she comes forward, Eye catches her with a counter right hand. Calvillo lets fly a head kick, and Eye catches it and tries to push Calvillo down, but the Californian gets back to her feet. Eye chases after her with a few punches, and both connect with a few punches as part of lengthier combinations. A right to the body and a left to the head scores from Eye, and when Calvillo responds with a body shot, Eye counters up top. Eye jabs a few times to disrupt the movement of her opponent, and when we hear the 10-second clapper, the two slug it out. The horn sounds to end this close round.

Round 2

The second frame commences as Calvillo looks to press the action, sticking out her lead arm with her fingers outstretched. Eye slaps it away and follows with a right hand, but Calvillo ducks out of the way in time. Calvillo throws a combination back at her, and a couple left hands find success throughout. As Eye attempts to return fire, Calvillo halts her aggression with a straight left that pops Eye’s head back. Eye slaps low with a kick, and Calvillo charges in to go after a takedown. Eye stuffs it and knees her in the torso, but Calvillo pushes through it to secure the takedown on her second attempt. Calvillo tries to tie her up and stop Eye from walking up the cage, while Eye holds the wrist of her adversary to prevent much offense. Calvillo breaks her hand free and pops Eye on the face once. Eye muscles her way back up, and Calvillo tries to hop over to take her back. With one hook in, Calvillo is working her way towards a back take, and Eye turns out of it but goes a little too far. Calvillo jumps on to get her back, and Eye leans down to try to escape out the back door. Calvillo stays tight on her back, and Eye drops to her knees. Calvillo is high on the back and tries to get her wrist free but Eye is holding on with all her might. Eye forces a stalemate while Calvillo is wrapped around her back with a body triangle set up, and rips her hand free to start dropping down a few punches. Eye bucks to get up, and takes a few punches but is yanked back down. Calvillo starts putting punches together in number as Eye tries to scramble, and as soon as Eye turns her around, the round ends.

Round 3

The round begins slowly, as Eye sticks her jab out there to keep Calvillo away. Calvillo tries to commit to a big overhand right, and Eye catches her winding up with a sharp left hand. While Eye keeps the jab flowing, Calvillo goes after the lead calf. Eye’s jab continues to find success, although Calvillo walks through one to score a solid left hand. In a turn of events, Calvillo starts to turn on her own jab as she has found her range, and starts doing some work on Eye’s nose. Eye ducks in to aim at the body, and Eye tags her up top with looping hooks. Calvillo scores, and then Eye comes back. They trade like this, one after the other, and Calvillo’s offense has started to pick up as she continues to mark up the nose of the former flyweight title challenger. Eye sits down on a right hand, and Calvillo does not like it so she changes levels and takes the fight down. Eye keeps a firm grip on the wrist to prevent strikes from Calvillo while on her back, and as she scrambles, she gives up her back with about 30 seconds left in the round. Eye is not concerned, and holds on to shut down the offense until the final seconds tick off the clock.

Round 4

This frame begins with a brief slugfest. Both land a few strikes in their exchanges, and as they separate, Eye targets a kick to the body. Calvillo catches it and hits a smooth takedown. Within seconds, Eye turns over and surrenders her back like the last two rounds. Eye tries to scramble and shake the former strawweight off of her, but Calvillo gets her hooks in and starts landing punches on the side of Eye’s head. Eye protects her head from most of the strikes that come her way, but precious seconds are ticking off the clock while her adversary holds back control on her. Calvillo starts dropping down a few short elbows that land on the side of the ear, and this inspires Eye to burst to her feet. She does so, and opens up with a few looping punches. Calvillo shoots in under one of the hooks to get the fight down, but Eye stuffs it and shoves her away. Eye walks forward, the round still potentially hanging in the balance, and throws a right hand that lands on the shoulder. Calvillo is trying to keep an advancing Eye at bay, but Eye connects with a few more right hands. The Californian pushes out a jab to stave off Eye, and Eye ignores it to bite down on her mouthpiece and slug it out. Calvillo comes back at her with a similar fury, and Eye avoids the brunt of the damage as she throws back at her. The two swat at one another with jabs until we hear the horn.

Round 5

The two greet one another after 20 minutes of combat by clapping hands together. Calvillo sticks out a straight left a few times, all while stopping Eye from landing her looping right hands. Eye goes to the head and body with punches, and they both trade jabs that glance off one another’s chin. Eye scores a one-two, and is met with a double jab after she finishes her combination. Calvillo dings her with a right hand, and then lands another when Eye wades forward. Eye starts to ramp up the aggression with punches, and in response eats a swift left from Calvillo and a jab. They both trade straight punches and jabs, and each woman finds brief success with a combination or two. Going tit-for-tat with 90 seconds left, a right hand from Eye opens up a cut above the left eye of her opponent. Calvillo does not notice it, and lets fly a spinning back fist that Eye narrowly avoids. Eye stings her with a right hand, and wings another that puts her off-balance. This allows Calvillo to hit a quick takedown, and the ex-strawweight drops down a few hammerfists until Eye explodes back up. Calvillo briefly flirts with a Peruvian necktie submission, but Eye pulls out and gets on top, before Calvillo stands up without much concern. Eye chases her down with punches, and the two swing it out until the final bell.
