Alfred Khashakyan: ‘I’m Glad I’m The Underdog’

Alfred Khashakyan understands that he will not be the bookmaker’s pick to win at Bellator 238. For observers of the sport, he will be seen as cannon fodder in a showcase bout for the promotion’s latest notable free agent signing, former Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight contender Sergio Pettis. The 31-year-old is well aware of this perception and he is fine with it. Just as long as you know he plans to be victorious in Los Angeles on Jan. 25.
“You guys better watch out, because I’m coming,” Khashakyan told Sherdog. “I’m taking names, I cash checks, and I break necks. I’m glad that I’m the underdog, [because] it’s going to be a good upset.”
In this exclusive conversation with Sherdog, the former Lights Out Xtreme Fighting bantamweight champion spoke about his path into the sport of MMA and why he saw no future in muay Thai fighting from a financial standpoint. He also touches on how he ended up joining Bellator, and if other promotions were interested.
