For most athletes, becoming a world champion is a pivotal moment in a long career journey. However, for 22-year-old One Championship lightweight king Christian Lee, the journey has only just started. And on Oct. 30 at One Championship: Inside the Matrix, step one in his legacy building process is scoring a win over Iuri Lapicus.
“As I was coming into the lightweight division, many people thought that I just got a lucky shot against [Shinya] Aoki. And I’m sure they counted that as a lucky win as well. But I’ve put the time in, I trained my butt off in the gym for so many years and now I feel like it’s all coming together. My game is just starting to develop into the champion that I always knew I was capable of being. Like you said, I’m only 22-years-old, and I feel like this is really the start of my career. [For] many people, their end goal is to win the championship belt. For me, this is where my career starts. This is where my journey really starts to take off. That’s why I’m so excited to head into my first title defense, because this is really going to be the start of my legacy.”
Along with breaking down his first official title defense against the native of Moldova, he also looked back at his short notice win over Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev last year.
