How Many Punches Will Mayweather and McGregor Land?

(SPONSORED CONTENT) -- While most have kicked back and simply enjoyed the insane spectacle of The Money Fight, along with all the wonderful sound bites it’s created, the worlds of boxing and mixed martial arts have been exchanging a pretty trivial war of words. Many from the boxing world have said that McGregor doesn’t stand a chance in this fight.

Isn’t that the whole point?

Boxing pundits have been jokingly pointed out that the only easy way out for McGregor is if he throws a low blow or a kick in the fight. BetOnline.ag has gone so far as to put up odds on whether or not that will actually happen.

Will There Be A Low Blow – Yes +220 / No -280
Will Conor McGregor Throw A Kick – Yes +1600 / No -5000

A low blow is a circumstantial thing that occasionally happens, so if you’re in the mood to throw down some cash and bet on that sort of thing then go right ahead. It’s no different than betting on the coin flip at the Super Bowl to be honest.

For whatever it’s worth, there’s absolutely zero chance McGregor throws a kick in the fight. Say what you will about McGregor, but the man is full of respect. A lot of the character you see is a man promoting himself to make money.

The more interesting prop bet on BetOnline.ag is the total landed punches by each. McGregor is being given a total of just 31.5 punches, while Mayweather is getting a much more respectful volume with 105.5 landed punches.

Total Punches Landed by McGregor (31.5) – Over -120 / Under -110
Total Punches Landed by Mayweather (105.5) – Over -155 / Under +125

To put this in perspective, Manny Pacquiao landed 89 punches when he fought Mayweather. Canelo Alvarez managed to connect on 117 punches after throwing 526. Andre Berto had a lopsided punch stat against Mayweather, registering 83 landed throws while Mayweather connected 149 times.

So 31.5 landed punches for McGregor is extremely low and almost insulting. It also suggests that McGregor isn’t going to last the whole 12 rounds. Ricky Hatton, who fought Floy Mayweather in 2007, was knocked out in the 10th round after having landed 63 total punches. Victor Oritz landed 26 total punches before being knocked out in the fourth round.

The interesting angle about McGregor’s total punches landed over/under is that he’s guaranteed a win inside of four rounds. If he’s as aggressive as he’s said he’s stated he will, be there’s a decent chance that he finishes the fight well before he reaches 31.5 total punches.

However, Mayweather has routinely said that he is going to put on a show. Unless Mayweather goes head hunting and decides to end this fight super early, I’d be shocked if he didn’t break that 105.5 punch total set out by BetOnline.ag.

Using the odds and props to unfold the likelihood of outcomes in the McGregor-Mayweather encounter is an interesting endeavor. I can’t tell whether or not McGregor’s total punches landed number is a product of the oddsmakers underestimating his technical ability, or overestimating his punching power.

You’ll have to decide for yourself and ultimately bet accordingly.

Check out all the great props on the super fight of the year when Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor wage war at BetOnline.ag!
