Werdum Wants Fedor Next

Four contenders were whittled down to two Saturday at Strikeforce/M-1 Global “Fedor vs. Rogers,” though questions still remain surrounding the promotion’s heavyweight title picture.

Fabricio Werdum, who earned a unanimous decision against Antonio Silva, believes he has the answer.

“Maybe it’s my turn now, my turn for (a) fight with Fedor,” said Werdum. “He’s the best in the world.”

The decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt watched Emelianenko’s dramatic performance against Brett Rogers and thinks he’s better suited for Emelianenko next than in a title bout against champion Alistair Overeem.

“I fought one time with Alistair in Japan,” said Werdum. “I think now is my opportunity to fight against Fedor. I believe in my techniques and if it is put on the ground… I believe in my jiu-jitsu.”

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, who believes Overeem will return to the U.S. to defend his title in early 2010, said the co-promotions wouldn’t rush into any quick decisions.

“That question is something that I’ll have to sit down with M-1 (Global) and have that conversation and see which direction we collectively feel is best for the next fight and we’ll definitely circle back with CBS and see the different options that we can present and which we feel would be best for television,” said Coker.
