A heavyweight clash pitting Curtis Blaydes Shamil Abdurakhimov has been officially added to the UFC 242 lineup.
Promotion officials confirmed the previously rumored bout on Monday. UFC 242 takes place in Abu Dhabi on Sept. 7 and is headlined by a lightweight championship tilt between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier. The main card is available on pay-per-view through ESPN+.
Blaydes has lost twice in nine Octagon appearances, with both defeats coming via TKO at the hands of Francis Ngannou. In his last outing, Blaydes outpointed Justin Willis at UFC Nashville on March 23. The Elevation Fight Team representative also owns notable victories against Alistair Overeem, Mark Hunt and Alexey Oleynik.
Abdurakhimov, meanwhile, enters the matchup on a three-fight winning streak. Most recently, the 37-year-old Dagestani scored a second-round TKO of Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night 149 on April 20. Abdurakhimov owns a 20-4 career mark that includes triumphs over the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Walt Harris, Jeff Monson and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, to name a few.
