Masvidal beat Diaz at UFC 244 via TKO after the doctor intervened at the end of the third round, indicating the cut above Diaz’s right eye was too significant for him to continue.
Both fighters said they’d happily run it back given the premature stoppage, although Diaz said he was doubtful the UFC would give him the fight and announced on social media he would be going on another break before redacting that statement by telling ESPN: “I’ll fight forever. I’m never going to retire, that’s for sure.”
Masvidal said via his Instagram account that he’s open to a rematch with Diaz if his opponent gets his motivation back to fight.
“Heard it might be true, if so it was fun sharing the #cage with you. Whenever you get that itch again, let’s run it back. I’m gonna go make this paper in the mean time @natediaz209 #theresurrection”
Diaz may be waiting some time for a rematch with Masvidal rumored to be fighting the winner of next month’s welterweight title fight between the Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington, which takes place at UFC 245 on Dec. 14.
