WBO Welterweight Title Fight: Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn

Round 1

Mark Nelson is the referee for this WBO welterweight championship fight on ESPN. Horn is the first to let his hands go, a few jabs that miss. Pacquiao is backing away, waiting for his spots to attack. Horn opens up with a four-punch combo to the head, but the Filipino blocks it all and smiles at the Aussie. Horn is very aggressive early and is trying to get rough with the champion. Horn backs Pacquiao into the ropes and slams a few hooks to the body. Horn is relentless with a volley of punches, but one shot to the mouth forces Horn’s mouthpiece out. Pacquiao lets his hands go but he can’t land anything just yet. Horn continues to pressure the legend and Pacquiao is having a hard time figuring him out.

Round 2

Horn continues to try and swarm the champ as soon as the second begins. Pacquiao is lunging in with his right hand and then misses with a left. Horn is darting side to side and giving Manny all sorts of movement when he exits, but when he comes forward, the Aussie launches punches from all angles. Pacquiao backs into the ropes and clinches with the challenger, but Horn answers with three rights to the head on the inside. Pacquiao lands a counter straight left to the head, his best punch so far. Manny tags his with a left to the body and then a hard left upstairs that stops Horn in his tracks. The two exchange solid punches at the bell.

Round 3

Horn darts out of his corner and comes right at Pacquiao. Manny tags him with a Nice right jab before being tied up. Horn is cut above his right eye but he’s still coming forward. Horn leans in and swallows a short left, but he takes it well. Pacquiao lands a right cross, but he’s quickly tied up. Pacquiao is able to keep a good distance when he punches and is starting to land plenty of shots to the body and head. Horn is undaunted, though, and continues to give the Filipino movement and awkward punch combos. A wild exchange breaks out in the center of the ring, but Pacquio gets the better of them.

Round 4

Horn comes right after the champ again and lands a nice right-left to the body and head against the ropes. Pacquiao just misses a powerful straight left to the head. They trade blows and Manny is down, but he was clearly off-balance and it’s correctly ruled a slip. Horn triples up his jab and then fires a right down the pike, but Pacquiao blocks it. Pacquiao returns the favor by nailing him with a hard shot to the guts. Horn misses a sloppy combo but corrects his balance and then pops the champ with a lead left uppercut to the chin. It’s another wild exchange, but neither man lands anything noteworthy at the bell.

Round 5

Horn presses the action early, lands a left to the body and right to the head. Pacquiao backs into the ropes and Horn swarms him, but he's unable to land anything further. When they return to the center of the ring, Pacquiao clips his foe with a short left to the melon. Horn fires a left to the body, followed by a right to the head and then ties the Filipino up. The welterweights trade decent leather near the ropes, with Manny landing a short uppercut on the inside. A powerful jab to the head from Pacquiao snaps Horns head back. Again. Horns backs of for a second but changes direction and comes right at his foe but eats another right. At the bell, Pacquiao drills him with a left but the Aussie shakes it off.

Round 6

Horn drives Pacquiao in the ropes, digs several shots to the body and then rips him with a right uppercut to the chin. Pacquiao exits and regroups, looking to land that missile of a left. The two warriors go toe-to-toe and their heads accidentally come together, resulting in a cut on Pacquiao’s hairline. He’s bleeding badly but it’s not in a spot that will stop the fight. Horn is all over the champ, but he's not landing anything. Rather, he’s tying him up, trying to maul him on the inside and digging to the body. Pacquiao is starting to look a little uncomfortable with a minute left and he’s not throwing as much as he was a few rounds ago. A short right cross from Horn rocks Pacquiao, who stumbles slightly backward. Horn is unable to capitalize and Pacquiao escape any further damage.

Round 7

Pacquiao fires a left to the body and then a straight left upstairs as soon as the stanza begins, but Horn walks right through it. Horn lunges too far in for a pair of rights, misses, and then eats a right hook for his effort. Horn ducks and dips and then charges at the champ, forcing Pacquiao into the ropes. Pacquiao ties him up and has to regroup in the center of the ring. Pacquiao goes low with a left and the lands a right to the noggin. A brief exchange breaks out and both men land rights up top. Their heads come together again and Pacquiao is pouring blood from a laceration on his left hairline now. He’s cleared to fight and Nelson warns the two to watch their heads on the inside Horn lands a right and then they swing for the fences. Pacquiao slams a right to the head, but he eats a right and then a left. Another exchange closes the frame, with Pacquiao delivering a left to the body at the bell.

Round 8

Pacquiao lands a decent jab early as Horn charges in at odd angles. Horn misses a left and right, only to taste a left to the face. Horn is bouncing up and down, moving side to side and throwing a lot of punches, but nothing is landing. Horn is down during an exchange, but it’s correctly ruled a slip. Horn pops the Filipino with a short overhand right to the head, but Manny shakes it off. Horn ducks down and is caught by a left hook and he backs off. Horn seems to be shaken by the punch, but Pacquiao doesn’t follow up with anything and allows the Aussie to clinch.

Round 9

Horn races out of his corner and traps Pacquiao on the ropes and digs punches to the head and body. They move to the center of the ring and Horn lands a nice straight right upstairs. Pacquiao just misses a lethal left to the head. They exchange in the center and Pacquiao cracks him with a hard left and then a right. Horn is shaken a bit and ties up, but Pacquiao breaks free and tags him again. They go toe-to-toe and Pacquiao is all over him. A left to the jaw rocks Horn, who backs into a corner. Manny is in kill mode and punches cleanly to the head. Horn stumbles across the ring to regroup as Pacquiao chase shim down. Blood is pouring from the Aussie’s face late int he round. A left to the head forces Horn to stumble all the way across the ring but he’s saved by the bell. Huge round for Paquiao.

Round 10

Referee Nelson tells Horn’s corner that unless he shows him something in the next round, he's going to stop it. Horn comes right after the champ but his punches are blocked. Horn stumbles into a right to the head and then he ties him up. Pacquiao is taking his time in the round and it’s allowing Horn to clear his head and recover. Horn is exhausted but he’s hanging on and tying the champ up whenever he can. The Filipino lands a series of jabs and then a left upstairs, but it’s mostly blocked. Horn’s right eye is swollen nearly shut but he’s able to land a nice right to the cheek.

Round 11

As they head into the championship rounds, Horn clearly needs a knockout in order to win. Horn ties Pacquiao up and forces him into the ropes. Horn digs a flurry of punches to the body as he backs the Filipino up into the ropes again. Horn misses a right cross and then eats a left upstairs, shaking him. The Aussie quickly recovers and lands a left of his own, but Pacquiao brushes it off. Horn ties the champ up again and mauls him, but Nelson says nothing. The action slows quite a bit late as they clinch repeatedly.

Round 12

Though Horn won the 11th (and possibly the 10th), he still needs a knockout here in the final round if he’s to win. The welterweights embrace at the center of the ring before going to war for a final three minutes. Pacquiao lands a left to the body but his follow-up right misses. Horn isn’t quite as desperate as he needs to be early, opting to do what he’s been doing all fight. They trade leather along the ropes and the Aussie pops Pacquiao with a hard right to the dome. Manny answers with a right and left before circling off the ropes. Horn lands a nice right through the guard. With a minute left, Horn needs to go for broke. Ringside commentator Timothy Bradley just said that we are in Argentina as the fighters go toe-to-toe until the final bell, with Horn getting the better of the exchanges.
