Rose Namajunas: ‘Not Much to Gain’ from Trilogy Bout with Joanna Jedrzejczyk at the Moment

Rose Namajunas already owns a pair of victories over Joanna Jedrzejczyk, so in her mind, it’s easy to see why a trilogy bout isn’t a priority.

“Right now, that fight doesn’t really interest me at the moment,” Namajunas recently told TMZ Sports. “I think I’d be interested to see how she does with somebody else before even entertaining that possibility. At the moment, there’s not much to gain from running that back again.”

“Thug” Rose scored perhaps the biggest upset of 2017 when she knocked out Jedrzejczyk in the opening round at UFC 217, ending the Polish fighter’s run as one of the most dominant champions in the promotion. While Jedrzejczyk blamed her performance on a bad weight cut, Namajunas proved she was no fluke, taking a five-round verdict against her rival in a rematch at UFC 223 on April 7.

Still, humility hasn’t been the chosen path for Jedrzejczyk since then. After that second defeat, she addressed the rest of the strawweight division with the following message: "Bow down, I’m the queen.” Additionally, Jedrzejczyk has been adamant in her stance that she deserved to win a decision in the rematch.

If Jedrzejczyk acknowledges that Namajunas is the best in the division, the champion might be more inclined to think about a potential trilogy.

“Unless she’s says I’m the best — publicly” said Namajunas. “Publicly because I already know she knows.

“Just say it, to everybody. She knows I’m the best but she won’t admit it to everybody.”

Jedrzejczyk will attempt to climb back into title contention when she faces Tecia Torres in a featured bout at UFC on Fox 30 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 28.
