Since Dillashaw relinquished his belt, the UFC organized to have the flyweight champion Henry Cejudo move up a division to fight the heavy-handed Marlon Moraes for the vacant title back in June. Cejudo finished the Brazilian in the second-round of that fight after an impressive comeback to become the dual-division champion.
Dillashaw told to Helen Yee that the division has become stale since his forced departure and believes the UFC needs him back to get the fans interested again (via BJPENN.com:)
“That bantamweight division needs me back,” Dillashaw said. “They need the entertainment back and they need me to come back and throw some wrinkles in the weight class and create some tension.”
When the former champion returns he’ll be 35 and despite that he said he deserves to get an immediate title shot against whoever is the champion at the time:
“Me. When I come back. That’s why they need me back, they need someone to cause some fire, cause some rift. That is my weight class, I had to give that belt up and fair enough, I understand,” T.J. Dillashaw said. “I f****d up, and I had to relinquish it. But, I didn’t lose. That’s my belt, I’m still calling it my belt. I’m still the champion of the world. When I come back I will reclaim it.”
