UFC Adds Cage Warriors Light Heavyweight Champ Modestas Bukauskas to Roster
The Ultimate Fighting Championship is beefing up its light heavyweight roster lately.
A day after the signing of former Rizin Fighting Federation champion Jiri Prochazka, the UFC is welcoming former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder Modestas Bukauskas. The fighter announced his recent signing on his social media on Thursday.
"They say dreams come true, if you work hard, stay the course, and never give up," Bukauskas wrote. "Ever since I started MMA, it has always been the dream of my father and I, to sign with the UFC (best MMA organization in the world) and compete against the best fighters in the world. After much adversity, a rollercoaster of events/emotion, and a ton of hours in the gym, I am pleased to announce that just a few days ago, we signed a contract with the UFC, the dream has become reality!"
Fighting out of England but making his way out of Lithuania, Bukauskas (10-2) joins the Las Vegas-based promotion riding a six-bout winning streak. The 25-year old fighter won the CW light heavyweight belt after overcoming Marthin Hamlet via TKO in the fourth round of their CW 106 encounter. In his latest appearance, he smashed Italian challenger Riccardo Nosiglia thanks to a series of nasty elbows which shut his opponent's lights out at CW 111 in November. All but one of the Gintas Combat representative's victories have come inside the distance.
In the past, Bukauskas competed also in the middleweight division, but nearly four years have passed since he made the cut to 185 pounds. A date and opponent for his Octagon debut have not been confirmed.
